I have some wonderful baby designs from EmbLibrary that I would like to use.

Fleece is fine - are you thinking of actually cutting squares and sewing them back together? I think I would keep the fleece in one piece and maybe mark off squares with giant rickrack and then embroider in the squares. Get some remnants of the same weight fleece and practise your designs. Fleece comes in all sorts of weights as you can tell by looking at scarves at the dollar store versus a large chain store. a 1/4 yd cut won't cost much, especially as a remnant and cover it with your practise designs. Very thin fleece will pillo n you immediately and your hard work will not look good.
You will need to put a topper on there as the stitching will want to sink in to the fleece. Look at the project area of embroidery library and checkout their hints for fleece embroidery. Have fun!!

Personally I prefer natural fibers like cotton and linen because they breath better for babies skin especially if they might be sensitive. I do see synthetic ready made blankets for sale in stores. The fleece would make up quick and be easy to work with.

Hi there. I make baby quillies from fleecy blanket material. All in one, but mark my designs, then put a batting in and a backing in a child's motif that fits the front designs, i.e. aeroplanes for aeries on the front, etc. I also put some lace edging on, and it sells really well. Hope you have same success.****

I have use flannel and also cotton. I like to put the kids names on the quilts in a larger square. I like to make the quilt as you go method.

For a few years I have been making baby blankets from fleece and embroidering them mainly with Disney designs, they are very popular in Australia both summer and winter, in summer because they are light with the aircon on.

I've done some Rag Quilts using fleece for both sides...and you don't need any batting inbetween...just sew together the squares and Fringe Cut.

I have used fleece to do blankets. If you are careful about selecting the designs it works well. I use the same color thread on the bobbin and it looks good from both sides. ALSO, applique works very well. If you use the same color on bobbin as the top you end up with the applique version on the top and a RW version of the design on the back.

I have made many baby blankets using fleese. They all have turned out wonderful. I usually embroider every other block. Have done every block, but to me it looks too busy. Hugs, Judy
