hi there I have always made a label, whether its embroidery or preprinted fabric, with an light interfacing on the back & sew it on the back lower right hand corner. This is the way I was taught @ my quilt guild. I hope that this helps. hugs loralye

I put them on the back also, unless I have only embroidered my initials and the date in the bottom right hand corner like an artist signs a painting;>)

I generally but my label on the backing before I put the backing on that way the stitching doesn't show through to the front. If I start putting it together and realize I forgot to put my label on, I hand stich it into the corner on two sides and let the binding take care of the other two sides. I hope that helps.

I have never seen a quilt label on the front of a quilt (not saying you couldn't put it there) they are usually always on the back. I think ALL quilts should have a label with the date and who made it for historical reasons.

I put one on the back, with a little story about the quilt, date,name etc. Usually put iron-on vliesofix [that double sided sticky web stuff] then use a hand stitch to sew down properly.

No, that's not ok. When I attach the labels I hand sew them on and machine sew. If you are looking at the back of the quilt, sew it on the bottom left corner. (So that's the bottom right if you are looking at the quilt from the front). I use Kona cotton (but you can use what you like. I would then pin the label on and sew by machine on the bottom and left of the label. This would be done before you fold your binding to the back and hand stitch your binding down. Then I would hand sew the label down at the top and the other side. You could add trim to the two edges of the label or just fold under and press. Hope this is clear. Can't wait to see your quilt.

Well done Vicky! While I slept and nursed my aching head and ears and throat, you have made a whole quilt! Phenomenal.
Now, If you haven't trimmed the label back to the outline stitches (assuming it has an outline) you could just fold the fabric under and iron it down, then slip stitch it onto the back of the quilt.
Since these are being made for children who have nothing, I would put the label to the top so the child can see it more easily and you had better believe these will be cherished and looked at and loved.

Something I had seen was a label that formed a pocket, with a closure, so the recipient could place little valuables inside it and not lose them. I suppose a Velcro closure would be good for this.

Thanks to all......I ended up hand stitching to the back and man, this was done with love as I hate plain sewing much less hand sewing...LOL!! Will post pic tomorrow..Hugs

what I do ala Eleanor Burns, Quilt In A Day, do your label - any type you prefer - attach it to the backing of your quilt BEFORE you quilt it. That way it becomes a part of the quilt itself and not likely to wear off or be removed. Congrats on finishing your quilt...
