Just curious. Are any other cuties involved with the "Little dresses for Africa Project? I am and I am enjoying making these little dresses. This is a project for my Homemakers club but my research sees anyone can be helping. Now they are also doing little britches for the boys, made from t shirts/Lillian.

Dear Lillian,

What a wonderful cause! I'm not involved so far, but I just knew you would do something like this for people in lesser circumstances than most. God bless you as you make all of these clothes for those beautiful African people. Love and blessings Chris

I know it calls for pillow cases but with all the fabric I have it's just as simple to use it by folding the size of pillow case and putting one seam, then putting seam down the back./Lillian

That's what I used is material. In fact years ago I bought several yards of large gingham checked to make daughter a dress. Never happened, so I've made to pillowcase dresses and still have red checked.

I have made 24 so far , they went to Africa, with a lad who works over there ,I have even seen a photo of a little girl in one of my dresses ,it was such a thrill to see her with a big smile on her face

I can only imagine what a thrill that would be. My daughter has also informed me," momma you know the 100 boxes our church does for Christmas, these would fit in those boxes, 50 dresses and 50 britches". Don't knw if I can get all that done but will make an effort. Those boxes go to Haiti to an orphanage and school our church supports. some yrs. back I made a lot of little purses to go in those boxes. Posted them on Cute but they would have to be way, way back/Lillian

This is correct or one of the sites for the dresses. Google Little britches for Africa and you will again get Rachels site telling you how to do the britches from Tee Shirts/Lillian

Flair embroidery magazine, published here in the U.K, has been holding a competition, to be judged at the NEC in March 2012, to sew these dresses, which will then be sent to the USA for distribution by missionaries. Nancysnotions has a pattern and suggestions. Jan

Its a wonderful cause, I heard about it a few years
ago. There was a lady giving free tutorials on utube. She was making them by the dozen and it became a hot item to do because it was easy to do.
The girls love them. Didn't know about britches for
boys but after making so many doll clothes I imagine
they are easy too.

Haven't done the britches yet. Committed to the dresses right now because of the club. I do have a box of Tee shirts from all the places I have been for the past 20 yars. Was saving them to do a quilt one day but have decided that this would be a better cause than something for myself, so down the road I'll start on the britches. I do think it's important to do something for the boys also/Lillian

I just signed up for both. I have so many T-shirts and pieces of beautiful fabric to use for the dresses. I cannot wait to get started on them!

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I love sewing for others.

Hugs,

Thank you for bringing it up again..if you check Nancys Notions website they have great information...I did this last year and hope to make time to make more this year, love this project...there are instructions to make the dresses on Nancys..I used material rather than pillowcases and embellished them with embroidery (I did post a couple of them last year)
