"Elizabethan blackwork" biscornu.

I stitched the design twice, mattress stitched it together (from the right side. and then stab stitched through all around the flower centres pulling it as tightly as I could.

This looks terrific! It makes a great biscornu and you had a lovely solution for the middle, instead of the almost obligatory button.
I love blackwork, still have a 70s Anchor booklet on Spanish Blackwork and a couple of items I made by hand.
This looks like the real McCoy!

Thanks - I'm pleased with it although I've redone the design to have a blanket stich square round it to make sewing up easier. I think it would make the edges crisper as well.

I think so too, especially when you whip-stitch them together.

Sue I am impressed. I noticed the Blackwork first, then realised that it was a biscornu. Have to show my girlfriend who just loves BLackwork and the biscornu.

Superb!! Sue, you've done a great job on this. I agree about the blanket-stitch border - it would just finish it off but this looks beautiful just by itself, too. I love the way the centre of the flower puffs up from the stab-stitching.

The extra stitching really makes the design rich looking. Great idea for the middle center.
