I know you must be very proud! Many yrs ago ago, I had a neighbor/friend who played a violin. She and I could have been no more than 9 or 10 and as I remember, everyone bragged on her ability. He Mom was a school teacher. I tried and tried to get something called music out ot those strings and it never sounded any better that if someone had stepped on a cats tail. She was a very quiet girl but she was very good with it! I had long forgotten about her until I read this post. She would never get to come out and play with the neighborhood kids because her Mom was afraid something would happen to her. She sure played the Violin alot and her Mom wanted her to be a professional. I guess if her Mom knew I had been trying to make something that sounded like music come from her daughters violin, we would have both been in trouble. I also had a grand idea later that I wanted to play the piano. That was too was a joke when it came to me! I was not musically inclined! I think the best I ever got on a piano was chopsticks. I bought my son a very nice keyboard and he played with it alot and it did begin to sound like music but the next thing I knew, he had given it away! He also had a guitar that he played off and on for a while and it was also given away. He is 45 now, and is very hard of hearing. He has been told that was because he damaged his eardrums playing loud music in the auto for so many years. Now that I can believe! Of course, it could also be selective hearing! He only hears what he wants to hear.
Maybe your GD will be a professional one day! First Place Solo is a big acomplishment!
