who hear thinks that sewing & creating is as good as if not better than therapy? After being diagnosed with a brain tumor the MINI project that I was working on became a bigger undertaking. My Dr's said in the end it was great therapy for me as I thought of little else prior to my surgery! I worked on this for exactly 6 weeks, My son helped my with about 200 & my friends helped me with a swap of about 200 too. If you check out the photo in projects you can tell me what you think of my Therapy! Incidently I worked on finishing the top right up until 3am the day of my operation. I knew if I could do this huge undertaking I could do ANYTHING!

I had just admired your quilt in the projects section but had no idea that it really was for really serious therapy. How wonderful it is that we have these great hoobbies to help us through the tough times. Praying that your surgery and therapy will bring continued good health.

Sewing and creating definitely beats therapy - keeps your mind off the reason for needing therapy and keeps your mind glued to something beautiful unfolding before your eyes.
Congratulations on completing your quilt - it really is very lovely, and a constant reminder that you are a winner!

think I read somewhere that half hour of sewing is equal to 1 hour of therapy!

You are not alone in thinking hobbies are great therapy and confidence builders; medical experts would definitely agree with you as well as many people I've met who have eperienced this. This is an amazing achievement on your part; you certainly deserve the recognition. Happy you finished it & hope to see more from you.

What an inspiration you are! Your quilt is AMAZING! I have always 'escaped' to sew, etc., as I found it relieves stress, though my family and friends find that puzzling :)

Oh I absolutely agree that arts and crafts is a whole lot more therapeutic... and probably cheaper in the grander scheme of things. LOL! Add to that, the fact that you have tangible proof, too. And if you've got friends who appreciate what you've done and gives you rave reviews, that goes a long way toward building self-confidence.

Wow. You are sew right. Sewing is therapy. When my mother had a stroke I had to show her all kinds of pictures to keep her mind stimulated and it also helped her recall memories. Your quilt would be perfect for someone who goes through things like that.

Your work is exquisite! I am so impressed! It is beautiful! And yes, hand work...of any kind...embroidery, knitting, sewing quilting, etc... are all therapeutic, and help our brains in many ways, and in particular, when we do complex tasks and use multi sensory skills, we create new neural pathways!! Our brains are phenomenal organs, and medical researchers knows there is still so much more to know about this organ.

Here Here! I totally agree! The cuties here are so supportive and encouraging to one another, its so great to read. And when someone is ill or having troubles of some sort, so many are willing to give a shoulder to cry on, an answer to solve a problem or a prayer to help heal a broken heart. AND so very much more!
Best therapy I can think of. Way to go cuties!
And so thankful they where there for you Loralye!

Absolutely!!! I kept digitising all through the nine surgeries i had for breast cancer. I took my laptop to hospital each time and even took it when I was having the chemo treatments. It will go with me on Monday too and if I can sit up, I will digitise. I have a couple of projects for Cuties that will challenge me enough to keep my interest and Ray said we will buy an internet subscription so if I am up to it I can log into Cute,

Yes, I believe crafts are the second best therapy, after the love and support of our family and friends.

Absolutely!!! I think that any kind of needle craft is nature's own Prozac and pain medication and anti-anxiety, all wrapped in to one!! It doesn't get any better than this. Of course, it is no substitution for medical intervention so consult your doctor before starting any strenuous sewing activity. :)

I absolutely believe that sewing and creating is the best therapy for anything. I have seen what it can do to help even people that suffers from stress.
For me, there is no better therapy than creating. I want to congratulate you for sticking it through, and not giving up. Hope you are going to keep using sewing and creating for therapy, whatever you do.
