Amazing what cleaning up your designs off the computer will do. My computer was just so slow so I spent all of yesterday transferring my design from the computer onto an external hard drive. I also made a couple DVD's so I don't have to get out the hard drive when looking for a particular design.

I have just amazed my son in law who suggested that I needed to sort out my designs from my laptop (as I am getting a new one). I said that I have under 40 designs saved on the laptop and to his amazement I was able to show him that was the case.

Wow that is extremely impressive. What a tidy person you must be!

Wish I could have only 40 designs, but when there are so many beautiful one available. I that why we have so many???

Lynn I have no idea how many designs I have as they are on a external hard drive, plus half a dozen memory sticks plus CD's and more floppy discs than I would wish to count. One can never have too many embroidery designs

Great minds...etc. ......
I also spent time yesterday putting all my alphabets and fonts onto a DVD disc.
Then I spent this morning changing them!!!
I've decided to use a series of DVD's so that I have room to add new designs when they're unzipped and sorted.
I tried to put all my designs onto one disc and when they wouldn't fit I found out that I have at least three full DVD's worth of designs.
That means getting organised (Help!) - I have all of Veronika's designs and they'd just about fill one disc alone.
I haven't tried using another hard drive but I like the idea of organised DVD's.

Alma, How could you spend your birthday doing this?
by almag 06 Feb 2012
Easy. I spent the morning at the computer. Robinne made a birthday lunch and we went to her place for the party.

When we came home we were too full for an evening meal so I spent more time doing the DVD thing..... :}

My son gave me an external hard drive last year, but I have to follow your suggestion of putting them on DVD in case something happens to my computer.

way to go to make hard copies as well as external hard drive as they are more fragile than you realise a good knock or dropped can kill it stone dead and the info on it is rarely able to be recovered......soozie

You're one smart cookie. Not just thinking about it but, doing it. I really must recommit. Thanks for the reminder...

Not smart. Had to do it because I was getting so frustrated with this computer.

I have 4GB hard disc memory on my mac and it is still so quick so I can leave all my designs where they are :o) My husband has bought an external hard drive for back-ups to save everything.
Greetings, Bettina

I keep my on an external hard drive - have it hooked up to my PC and I make a backup regularly, too.

I have to unplug my external Hard Drive. Think this is why it has taken me so long to back Up, but I have been having so many problems with the computer lately, I had visions of it dying and losing everything. Realise it was because I had so much on the computer that it was going slow.

I also purchased a external hard drive for my photos and my designs. About every 6 months I try to transfer to a disk. I use rewrightable disks so I don't have double's on it.

I have carbonite, but because I did not know the software when I had to restore the entire machine. I have my data in 3 areas and have to consolidate into one area before I begin backup again! I do love carbonite, the assistance they gave me was invaluable, however now I have to learn their process! Live Laugh Download Stitch!
