Each of the two needles in my overlocker has it's own screw and I put them in seperately. The needles are set at different heights so inserting both at once would be tricky. There is a gadget for holding the needle in a hole at the end to make it easier. This is made by Hemline. Jan

OH if only, lol!
I don't know of such a thing, and as Jan pointed out they are at differnt heights so it would have to be specially made for overlock machines.
Good luck finding one, or finding someone who can make something like that for you.

I have one, says it's made by MBS Enterprises USA, and the name on i is "two needle installer" however when I Goggle it I cannot find it. The threads on one of the screws holding the needle has been striped for years so I no longer use it. PM me your address and I'll send it off to you.

Would a pencil eraser work? I saw that suggested on one of the users list for my commercial machine.

what a great idea i will pass this on to my friend who also has a brother overlocker, this is one design flaw and is such a pain in butt trying to hold one needle in place whilst attempting to get the or into position,
thank you for passing this info on to us, annie in the uk

Hi annie, I do not know of a specific tool, however the needle nose pliers with the rubber tips(easy to lose the tips) has helped me in the past.

Mine goes in one at a time as they have separate screws (stands to reason if I have to remove one need to do a rolled hem). In the Bernina kit there is a little lint brush with a hole on the opposite side which holds the needle to insert while you tighten the screw. Sorry never heard of the two needle installer. God luck

My Bernette has the same two screw system and the lint brush has a small hole in the other end to hold the needle. Could you make to holes with a heated needle in a plastic stick or teaspoon. I remember my mum heating a needle (stuck in a cork so as not to burn her hands) over a gas burner to make holes in teats for bottle feeding - at the time they came without holes and getting them just the right size was an accomplished art. Might still work to make your own double needle holder.

I googled for this and got a site called Sew-Quick.com and they sell the 2 needle installer for £6.50 plus P& P. I'm sure I got mine from Jaycotts.co.uk but they don't appear to have them now. Hope this helps.

I know you can buy them here in Australia. They are a really great help when putting in two needles. Hope you find somewhere to get one from.
