How-To: Homemade Linen Spray

I recently came across a wonderful recipe for homemade linen spray at Hallmark magazine of all places and had to share because it's so simple and customizable. It's also an ideal way to infuse the scent of an endless Summer into your bedroom. Spritz a bit onto your sheets or onto your clothes as you're ironing, or spray it into the air to use it like a room spray.
Supplies:
16 or 32 oz. spray bottle
2 tbsp. 100 proof vodka
Your choice of two oils, such as jasmine, bergamot, lavender, etc.
Distilled water


Here's how,

Mix the 2 tbsp. of vodka and your choice of these oils in the bottle as follows:
- 1 teaspoon jasmine oil and ½ teaspoon bergamot oil
- 1 teaspoon lavender oil and ½ teaspoon sandalwood oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla oil and 2 drops ginger oil
Then, add distilled water to the bottle until it is almost full.
Screw on the cap and shake the bottle to disperse the oils evenly throughout.
Shake lightly before each use.

OK - well dumb question? Why the Vodka?

Good recipe. Isopropyl alcohol and the vodka both work in the same way, adhering to the oil and distributing it throughout the distilled water. Make sure the vodka is clear vodka and not flavored. You can use the same amount of alcohol instead of the vodka.

Not a linen spray, but i've been making my own glass cleaner for many years now with this recipe (your listing the isopropyl alcohol inspired me to share this) 1 pint of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of non-sudsy ammonia (I use lemon scented), 4 teaspoons of dish detergent, and enough water to completely fill up a gallon container. I haven't bought Windex in over 20 years!

I can't find a milder shop bought spray.They all smell like public Bathrooms that have been sanitized.

The vodka helps the oil mix with the water. However, with that much oil, I would be scared to put it on fabric. I use this recipe with DROPS of oil as a room freshener and linen spray. I love Yalang Yalang and Lavendar. YY smells like Avon Pink Bubblebath to me.
