Question...On Brother machines, when it says your hoop size is 5x7, can you embroider 5x7 designs, or do they have to be smaller?

I have Janome & a 5x7 hoop, I don't worry about it because if it's to big I can't save it! Sew I then have to shrink it until it fits! But maybe a Brother is different I'm not sure

if the design I am importing is a 5x7 then it already is the correct size for that hoop

I think it depends on the machine. I have a brother 2500d and my 5x7 hoop actually stitches a 5.12 x 7.09 inch. So it is bigger. If you have some form of digitizing software, try to enlarge a design a little bigger and send it to your mchine and see if it will pull up for you. If it is too big it will go to the next hoop larger or if your machine only go up to a 5 x 7 it might not show up at all if it is too big. Have fun.

I have brothers and with mine you can embroider right to the edge of your hoop size. The hoop is biger than the embroidery area. I have occasionaly had a design that had too many stitches and my machine wouldn't recognise it. Why do you ask? are you having problems? Lyn. xx

I have a Brother machine on order, and should be here next week. I was just wondering how Brother hoops work. I don't know anything about single needle machines, I have a 15 needle commercial and most of my hoops are round.

I have a Brother and it will accept designs up to 130mmx180mm. Sometimes I will download a design that is listed as 5x7 but my machine will not accept it so it must be larger than a true 5x7. That is disappointing when it is a design that you paid for.

On my machine (I have a Viking) I can resize a design 20% so if you can resize on your machine you can shrink it just a little and still use it.

juanitadenney...I can resize designs, I was just wondering if you could use a full 5x7 design in the 5x7 hoop for the Brother machines. My hoops on the commercial machine are round. I have a 12x18 hoop for the big machine, I just wanted to know how the Brothers work as I have one ordered.
I sure wish we could get it back so our comments don't get cute off.

I have my 2 beutiful big brothers the pr620 and the pr1000. when I digitize a design for the 100x100 or 4x4 hoop I always make it 99x99. I notice that when I bring the design to the machine it says it is 99.1 or something a tad larger than how I created it. It will stitch it just fine if it thinks it is 4x4 or 5x7 but it does seem to think it is a poomptheenth bigger than the design that I have created.

on my brother 5x7, the embroidery field is a little larger than 5x7, my sister's singer it is also 5x7, but she get about 4.75X6.50!!!!

I have a Brother 6500 and it goes a little bit more than 5x7 I am not too sure but I think is 5.2 x 7.5 .

The brother machine hoops are in metric - so you will want a design that is 130*180 or smaller vs. looking at a inch size of 5*7). Most sites give both metric and inches for the design. 130*180 is not a true 5*7.
