I always use a fusible Iron on (Vilene) at the back of the fabric for pillowcases. It is hardwearing for frequent washing, and the embroidery stays nice and "crisp".
The pic is of a pillowcase that is as old as the hills,+30yrs but it is renewed with the embroidery. I needed Items to practice my embroidery on so the embroidery is only 4yrs but well used.
Happy Stitching!

I use the WorldWeidner.com brand and the Floriani brand washaway vilene. The WorldWeidner is a little less expensive but also a little less sticky.
