I try to get my machines professionally serviced once a year. I think the money is worth it. I regularly clean my machines including removing the bobbin case after almost every project. I use q-tips to catch the lint and bits of thread. I use canned air only on my muti-needle and serger being careful to point the air stream to the outside of the machine away from the motor. It will be interesting to see what everyone else has to say.

My machines get a yearly check up. My dealer takes care of everything for no cost, as he says, I'm a loyal customer. I keep the bobbin case clean with a tiny lint brush, I clean that after every project. And just keep dust off everything else. That's about all I do. Hugs..Carol

I clean & oil my bobbin case regulary and take the plate off above the feed dogs and clean in there where the auto cutter is after every design. I use the brush & oil that came with machine & take it in once a year to dealer for maintenance, but I hate doing that, because it never comes back right!!

I clean my machines regularly usually after 8 hours of stitching. I change the needle, take the bobbin case out and clean it with a brush, put a drop of oil in the bobbin case. I clean as much as I can inside with pipe cleaners. I have my machines serviced at least once a year professionally and inbetween if I end up with any problems. Hugs, Mary

I clean the bobbin area and under the needle plate when changing a bobbin, unless it's in the middle of a design then I do it afterwards. Not all my machines need to be oiled, the others get a drop after cleaning. My serger gets cleaned after every project, fleece andtowels leave an enormous amount of fluff.
They are serviced once a year.

I guess I must be the laziest embroiderer on the site,lol. Only clean bobbin if thread jams,which is not often at all. Was told to oil sparingly and needles get changed when they break or start making knocking noises...Dust or lint seems almost nonexistant unless I use serger thread...Or maybe it's because I spend too much time at the computer,hehehe. Gotta change my negligent ways...I did buy one of those tiny computer vaccuums though.

I try to clean my machines weekly. Vacuum inside the bobbin area and everywhere I can get the vacumm into, wipe down the bobbin casing, outside & hoops. I have Brothers and found Ann's fixit site the best help ever. I only change needles when they break or make those punching sounds and they only go to the Dr's when something is wrong. xx

Gosh, I've had my 18 year old Janome sewing machine professionally serviced once (because it was making an awful noise, and turned out it had crayons jammed inside lol) .. um my overlocker, also about 18 years old, has never been professionally serviced (because I've never had a problem with it I guess) and my embroidery machine was serviced just before I bought it 2nd hand about um 2 years ago? It's a minimum of 3 weeks turn around for servicing with the guys I use, they're very good & therefore very busy but I pine for my babies when they're sent away whether or not I've used them lately. I tend to do most of the servicing myself now, and the most recent was about 6 months ago I pulled apart my Janome and re-greased it (this is a no oil machine, grease only). Mini servicing I do reguluarly myself too.

I have all my machines serviced once a year (sewing,embroidering, over locker). Like you I used a very small paint brush and also I use make-up brushes and cotton wool buds. I clean my bobbin case with a cotton wool bud and also used a corner of a sheet of paper to clean the part that the thread goes through . You would be amazed by how the fluff gets in there and my pr1000 really really doesn't like fluff It says in the manual to oil the bobbin hook sparingly before doing anything else after you switch it on.

I go to the dealer once a year to let it check. And in case something strange happens, I open the parts I trust myself to do and clean. Mostly that are things like threadpieces in the bobbinholder, I remove.

I live in the high desert so dust is abundant. I clean my machines regularly as soon as a problem with stitching starts. I get help though, hubby does things like this so much better than I do.
