It's a good machine. But if it can't use anything but the "cards" that can be a problem. I know there are gals on here that have the Designer. I THINK my friend had one & she was able to use a floppy disk reader attached to the machine. I'm sure there will be answers here shortly! Of course a dealer is in the business to sell a new machine. It might be a good idea to see if anyone besides that one dealer can service a D-1 for you. She may not want to give you service & will probably charge a healthy amount for the service as the machine wasn't bought from her.

Is this the machine? If it has the cards then run to the nearest exit!! Do not buy!! When did she buy it?? You want a machine that can at least use a usb stick. In my opinion.. The dealer is right !!!

Does she have the Embroidery Arm for it so it could be used for embroidery?

Has she had it to a H/V dealer to have it cleaned and checked before selling it?

I have 3 sewing machines, a serger, and a 15 needle embroidery machine, and I just got my new little single needle brother last week, so I just thought ahhhhhh, maybe another toy, but I will pass on it.

I've had my HVDII for six years and it was second hand then. I believe this machine is now discontinued.

It's a beautiful machine, a real workhorse, is a dream to use and sews just about anything and I hope mine lasts a very long time. It sews, embroiders and quilts to perfection. However, if you want this machine for embroidery you'd be well advised to look further.

It needs an embroidery unit which slides onto the machine, bought separately, and uses d-cards which have built-in designs or are blank 'personal' cards and can be loaded with your own designs via the computer and a Reader/Writer Unit, also both bought separately. All of my embroidery machine equipment works perfectly but I don't think I could replace any of it now. I use only my personal d-cards.
Everything about the Husqvarna machines is very expensive. My machine came with an extra 'gift' of a new d-card with flower designs on it. The price was still on it - $99. The d-cards are prone to 'corruption'. None of mine have ever broken but there are plenty of reports of d-cards giving a great deal of trouble.

If the machine you are being offered is equipped with the embroidery unit and software, as well as a Reader/Writer unit and perhaps a spare personal d-card then $1500 is a good price. But..... knowing what I know now and if I wanted it especially for embroidery I would have to leave this one alone. There is no help from Husqvarna for these machines any more since it is so old and Husqvarna are interested only in selling the latest more up-to-the-minute machines. I definitely get the feeling of being thoroughly dumped by this large and greedy corporation.

Service is the other factor. I have an excellent mechanic who has worked on Husqvarna machines for 40 years and has no problems working on my old machine but you'd need the assurance and promise of a real mechanic that this machine could be serviced before buying it.

I'd love to say go ahead and buy this beautiful machine at that awesome price but in reality I'd have to be honest and say that if it isn't already equipped with the embroidery unit, Reader/Writer unit and spare d-cards then you'd be better off getting a different machine.

This machine is over 10 years old.
Even if it came with software, embroidery arm and personal embroidery writeable cards and reader writer box it is over priced.

All the designs and ebellishing stitches and quilting stitches that came on these cards for the machine were all incorporated into the Designer 1 machine as built in features.

The newer Designer 1 machines uses Floppy disks or USB stitcks to get the designs to the machine but require software to do so.
Since the Designer 1 machine there have been several newer models - Designer SE, Designer Diamond, Designer Topaz, Designer Ruby etc.
All have newer technology!

I had a Designer 2 and liked it. At one point they were offering (for a Price) to put a usb port on so you could convert it from floppy to usb. I did that and used it another couple of years before moving up to the SE which I am still using and like it, too.It all depends on what you want I guess. Even with the new ones almost as soon as you buy it they come out very quickly with a new version so unless you can really afford a new maachine and all its special attachments, etc every year we have to learn to be happy with what we have. Our Grandmothers probably had one machine for their entire life and were lucky to have it.
