I was wondering what kind of sewing projects you would recommend for taking in the car? We are going on holiday not sure where, we will drive as long as I can handle being in the car, & I think it would be easier for me if I was busy doing something. Sew far I have only been able to stand the car ride for 2 hrs @ a time, sew hopefully this would be something to help. I have one more bluework pattern to do & I have been saving it for this reason. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

oh my, good luck with that-hope you have a nice road trip. Unfortunately for me, I can't do anything while riding in a car without getting nauseous-I've been like that since I was a kid. My daughter likes to knit or crochet when we do road trips.

I am working on a granmother's flower garden quilt and can sew blocks while a passenger in the car. When I return to Ireland I again will not be a passenger any more. G

seconded, there are books I have listened to that I would not have read and I am so glad that I did (listen to them)
I love these books on cd when i drive the 780klm trip alone to visit my Mum. A pack of 12 cd's gets me thwere and almost home. Great way to listen and asmire the scenery as well :)

Me too but have a thing about protecting my eyes for in case we should be in an accident and the needles might slip. Wear glasses - how much it helps - don't know but it makes me feel better. My husband hates the knitting he says the wool makes fluff all over the dashboard.
I do have to finish an afgan for July sew I guess I will do that thanks for your insight! both of you!

I have done counted cross stitch in the car many times. But be careful when you open the door! One time my pattern, thread, & bib were laying on the big dashboard in the van so I could get out. Hubby & I opened our doors at the same time; wind came thru & blew the bib into his face, so he caught that, but everything else is still blowing around on the Waynesboro Mt.!!

Looks like the others pretty well covered it. So I will add one other thing for you that is not project related but you might enjoy. Go to your local library and check out a book on CD for listening to when the radio stations go out or get fuzzy. My husband and I listened to Dan Browns Angels and Demons this way. Had to get the movie afterwards and discuss the diference between the book and the movie, lol!

if you do not get car-sick, how about some pre-cut patchwork. I did some of the ' Encased hexagon' ones and cut the pieces before I left on a trip. Doesn't require too much effort to then stitch them together, as the difficult part is the cutting. Made a pretty pot stand or could have been pot holder.

thank you me too, The Dr's have recommended this for both of us! They have told me I need some sunshine? I guess I have been inside an awful lot since last July sew maybe I haven't have what my body needs?

Living in Central Qld means lots of travelling to and from major hospitals, so whilst travelling I have knit plenty of coat hangars with the lace insert, so very easy to do. I am away from home at the moment otherwise I would send you the pattern. Also I knit woollen slippers and crocheted tea towels.

I usually crochet in the car. Less pokey things to hurt me :). But I do remember making a tailored jacket a long time ago. It had all the hand tailoring in the collar and lapel that I did on a trip to Lake Tahoe. I also did a pillow with a Dresden pattern pieced in. I was on vacation with no machine so I did the whole thing by hand.

Hand stitching the binding onto a quilt (yuck lol), crochet, or cutting out projects. I'm usually the one driving but when I'm not I sometimes crochet tho I'm bad at it anyway lol :) Hope you have a great holiday :) xXx

Knitting is always my in the car or travel project. Something easy, that I can do without following a pattern too closely...and lots of yarn and needles to do several projects. I take knitting with me where ever I go... ;>)

BY the way, knitting was one of the cognitive/recreation therapy options offered to my daughter after her TBI. It was good therapy for both of us, and still is!

make a pile of large yoyo's and then when you come home you can join them together or sew them onto a set of cushion covers or make a tote with them.
al you need is a bag of fabric and set o of sharp scissors and the needle i allways use dental floss for the yoyo's and i can put the needle safely away by popping it into the hole the floss comes out of just make sure you have floss in the needle so you can pull it back out again.
