No commercial lessons in sewing or embroidery. What I know of sewing I learned from my grandmother and aunts who quilted and made all the clothes as well as upholstering and refinishing the furniture whenever it needed it. Embroidery I have learned from experience and here on cute from those who were more experienced. I also have a lot of books on sewing. Since I have only Dial up Internet I cannot get You tube or video tutorials on the cp/Lillian

I do take lessons at some of the local shops here in Knoxville. Have always enjoyed them. But if you really want a GRAND 4 days of lessons, go to Martha Pullen's 4 day School of Fashion Arts in Ala. She does it 2X a year...Feb & July. No, I don't get anything for advertising here! But I've been twice & loved it. It IS costly, but you get EVERYTHING. All the kits, 3 meals a day & wonderful, professional teachers. My plans are to go again next Feb. I have a place to stay (daughter's) so I don't have the expense of a hotel.

I had my free Bernina lesson when I just got my machine. Very useful but I wished they did some digitising lessons!

The only sewing lesson I EVER had was in what was known as "HOME-EC" in highschool....

Other than that...I am self taught by trial and error and a lot of reading.

yes, I still take them and learn new stuff all the time... especially with all the new stuff these new machines can do... and I do recommend them..

I learned the sewing basics in Home EC in high school, and watched my mama on her old treadle
machine. My first Home EC project to be sewn at home was an apron, which was done on the old treadle. I think it would be a good thing for Home EC to still be taught in high school to give at least the basic skills of sewing and darning to our kids.

I went to lots of overlocker (serger) classes when I first got my machine, then I did a few other sewing courses at the same shop. Does watching a youtube video to learn a technique? If so then I've done quite a few lessons recently lol :) xXx

Long time ago I remember I bought a Kenmore and on those days Sears gave tutorial with the machine. When I was in my twenties(long long ago) I took pattern making it was very interesting, I had everything in a regular notebook and my mom thought it was an old notebook so she put it in the garbage, I do not even remember the system all I remember you had to use a lot of math and it was an european method at the end you had a perfect project.

I did have sewing in Home Ec. It was terrible. A few years ago my dealer was doing a class on the serger. Now that was fun, we did ruffles and a small quilt as you go quilt on the serger. I've taken several quilting classes. Hugs..Carol

I learned to sew by watching my mother. I didn't take home-ec in school. I have taken several sewing classes from my machine dealer. We get them free with the purchase of our machines. They are wonderful!

About 14 yrs ago I took a quilt sampler class @ our local YMCA & ever since then I have been hooked on quilting! I really enjoy the whole process. I can & have quilted my own but I prefer to have them done its faster than me!I hav elearned sew much from my friends @ home & here on the site! I don't think that I would be the sewer that I am today without you all. Thank you for sharing

i have taken embroidery classes, great fun and you learn a lot from each other as well.

I go to sewing and patchwork classes and I love that we learn new techniques and we have fun with lots of giggles

Definitely - especially when you get your new embroidery machines. You will need to know what does what and of course what with all the new electronic features you need to be aware of them. I did 4 years of sewing in high school, we still have it here in Australia to choose as an elective. It's called Textile and Designs. Love and blessings Chris
