If you were sewing out some place settings for someone as a gift, and you did not know how many her table seats, how many would you sew out? I do not know the lady personally and cannot ask her. It is a favour for a colleague of my hubby. How many does your dining table seat?

I would make 8 place settings. That seems reasonable to me. ~Nancy

8 is standard. 12 if they are really important and entertain a lot! Have fun! Hope to see them in projects! Live Laugh Download Stitch!

If your doing them as a favor aka for free...I would do 4 and with permission, put my business card in or on the package so she can order (read as pay for) more place settings if she needs them.

I agree with Tracy. Start with 4 and go from there.
Or, you could ask the person you are doing the favor for.

If they are for everyday use I made one for each family member plus two more as in company.

I always do 8. I don't know why!! Probably because that's how many our table seats comfortably.

As a standard gift I would make four, depending on whether they are for formal or informal dining.
Formal dining anything up to twelve is normal.

I go along with what Tracypullen has said about the four and more.

In Germany the average family has 4 members so I would do it like Tracy said. Or can you ask your hubby if he knows how many members the family of his colegue has? As a favor for free I think that 4 are enough even when you give her the possibility to order some more ;o)
Greetings, Bettina

I will do six, because this is a normal setting for some tables. Hugs Marie
