Could someone tell me what the little scissors represent in the color sew out chart? I am new to this site and designs. I am embroidering a design and the first thing next to the color on my machine is a little pair of scissors. It is not an applique.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking at. Either it is a color change and the machine will stop and cut the thread. Or, if it is applique, it might be a time to stop, pull the hoop out, and cut the edge of the fabric along a basting line.

Whoops, I just saw that you wrote it is not an applique.
No it doesn't mean to cut thread I have a Babylock Elegante2. I was wondering if it was a fringe cutting item. But it doesn't say anything on the pattern. The first color is the only one it had it on. Well if anyone figures it out let me now. I just sewed it out as is. It came out really cute.

I have a Bernina machine and when the little scissor shows up it means to trim the ends of your thread. This usually shows up right after you start your design or after a color change

The machine I have means "cuts the thread after each color stop". And you can turn it on or turn in off and cut the thread manually. Peg

If you tell us exactly which design you are looking at, maybe we could help better. I could go look if I knew what you were working with. Usually the scissors icon means to cut the thread if your machine has automated thread cutting, or if it is within the same color stitch out, it could mean a jump you have to cut. Please let us know which design you're looking at. And perhaps what machine you're using, that would be helpful, too. Best of luck, Marji
