It's an embroidery that is raised, done by hand and it's very pretty but looks time consuming.

Stumpwork is kind of a 3 dimensional embroidery. It gives the finished product texture and character. If you google it you can find out quite a bit.

It is a form of three-dimentional embroidery. Sometimes the shapes of petals or leaves are made from fine wire, and then the embroidery thread is worked onto it. I've also seen it called 'raised embroidery' or 3d embroidery. Some of the layered machine embroidery designs, like the multi winged butterflies seem to be a take on that. Or that was always my impression.
