Question of the Day: In yesterday's post I asked what do you call your "sewing room" Today I am asking what do you say when people ask you what you "do"?

I guess some people might say this is called a "hobby"? Well I have decided we should say "WE ARE DESIGNER'S & THIS IS MY STUDIO"! Well girls what do you think? This isn't meat to critic those who have alternative names, just for us who call it a sewing room & when asked what I do I say sew or quilt! Saying I am a designer is really what I do & all of us do too! We should give ourselves a pat on the back!

It depends on who I'm chatting with. I tell most I do custom sewing and embroidery, and I either call it my studio or people I know I call it my jungle. Lol. If you seen it most of the time. It looks like a jungle.

I always answer that "I play"
Been a House Exec for a long time so I play with quilting and Designs and Knitting.
I don't do orders and always refuse them, cos they tie me down from having fun.
I'm so lucky! LOL...

It has taken me a long time to figuere that out. I now no longer sew for anyone else. Causes less stress that way.

I guess I am a bit of a smart a-- after being married to just a plain a-- for 16 yrs! My reply is usually "anything I want to"! I raised our son alone, even when I was married, cleaned the house, worked full time, did all of the cooking and did all of sewing plus learned how to do any kinds of crafts I could find to do. He would fuss if he found me cutting out a pattern on the dining room table or raise sand when I was "wasting time", painting. Funny but when I opened my craft store yrs after the divorce, when he needed something special for a friend or customer, he would stop by and ask if I would do this and that! My ego was very lifted although I never said a word...He NEVER asked "IF I could do it" it would always be, will you do it? I have painted, sewn, embroidered and even cooked things for him to give as gifts. He paid just like any customer would!!!! We have always been civil since the divorce 40 yrs ago! I never did him any favors because that was the way I made my living! He paid just like any customer! Oh, he got married just 5 months after our divorce but she worked in an office and could barely sew on a button. The answer to the original question would be, most any craft that you could want! I am now retired because of my health but I do favors for family now. Not many though!

I say that I am Susie's Embroidery and I embroider, sew, and do all other sewing, knitting, crochet and more, crafts plus I digitize as well. Some of the family feel that I should not be doing all this, since I am also a housewife and a wife with a husband who is not so very well at the moment. But I say - I do what I love most - and that is embroidery!!!!*****Love what we do.

I don't have a clever answer. I wish I did. I work full time, and embroider when I can. I have kind of a "nerd job" (I work as the math specialist for our school district) so my embroidery is my creative therapy. Maybe a cutie could help me come up with a snappy answer?

It depends on who is asking and if they are really interested in the answer. For instance if the grand kids ask what I'm doing my usual response is :- I'm standing on my head scratching holes in the ceiling with my toenails. This usually elicits a few giggles and they wander off to tell their parents Grandma's telling jokes again. But for more serious adults I say I'm currently working on affairs of state - this means the state of my sewing room and projects.
