I think with all this quilting I'm getting hooked on fat quarters! No, I don't mean my behind is getting fatter... although it might be. I mean those 1/4 yard piece of fabric that are more square than long. You can pick up one - or more - depending on how much cash you have - and no one knows how much you've spent! And they look soooo nice stacked - and you can use them for SOMETHING! Even the Wal•marts that no longer carry fabric to be cut, still carry fat quarters - and you can just toss them in the cart with all the other "stuff." Anyone else fallen in love with Fat Quarters?

Ha, ha. This made me laugh. I do love them since you got me into quilting and I am trying to figure out what I want to do with them. The bundled ones look so awesome. I love colors.

You can get them for about a dollar each. I like to buy them on ebay in a pack for a better price.

They are just about a dollar each at Walmart, but more like $2 - $2.29 at quilt stores where the fabric is higher quality. Sometimes Joann's has them half price!!!
In Mount Gambier, South Australia, generally from around $2.50 - $3.95 each in Spotlight (read here...Joann's poor country cousin)up to around $5.50 in a quilt fabric shop. Alma.
That's terrible! How does the Aussie dollar compare to the US dollar these days?
Here in England we have to pay from £2 upwards. That is at least $3 (US)!

Quilting is definately addictive!!!! The more you see how colour can work and enhance, the more you want to stitch.*****(and buy!!!!!) Enjoy your quilting and collecting.

Yes I love fat quarters and have a wonderful book for making quilts from them It is titled Fast quilts from Fat quarters by Barbara Chamay and is just wonderful Was great practice at doing my piecing. I also use them for applique also. Just love applique. Had a look at the site that was on a post yesterday. Really nice. Lyn

I'm a fat quarter fan. I use them for small projects like bags or purses and I use them for applique on quilt blocks or if a quilt calls for a smaller piece for strips of a different colour.
I find the fat quarter a really useful size and shape.
I have tremendous trouble resisting them but I could probably stock a shop with what I have. Problem is - the fat quarters continue to be displayed from the latest and prettiest fabrics. How is one to cope with that kind of temptation????

Oh, Yes, and when I visited Joann's quilt section in Scottsdale, AZ, at Christmas2010, and saw the fat quarters stacked right along the quilt fabric displays I was stunned into silence!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted the lot. It looked as though a rainbow had come down and gone to sleep on the shelf.

I'm not big on fat quarters though they have come in handy sometimes. I like yardage. I prefer to buy a yard or two at a time which is why I only shop once in awhile. Too easy to get carried away!

I love to buy at least a yard, but that gets sooo expensive. I really prefer to buy 1.5 yards of something I fall in love with. I have to stay out of fabric stores!
