Owl Pot Holder -- from Secrets of Embroidery. I have had these for a while now but have been too frightened to do them. There are 6 designs in the group. The one on the left is my first. I cut it too close and the white of the eyes came out. Then the sides started coming apart. I am going to give this one to a girlfriend who collects Owls and tell her it is just to look at as it might come apart. Not happy with parts of the method of the final sewings of these designs. Maybe it is just me.

I agree. They're both cute. I also appreciate your comments about how the first one was a problem and that you learned from your mistakes and made a second one. Good for you!

I have had these for a while and not tried them because I knew I would have problems, but after doing Sue's Purse I felt a little more confident.

Carolyn, I love owls and hate something getting the better of me. I will eventually do the others but not today as they take so long.

I wish you wouldn't do this to me. Just had a look and they are now $8.95 so I will give them a pass. Thanks anyhow.

You would never know the white part was missing. The fabrics are very pretty.

Thank You. Actually I like the owl without the white eye, but that is the one which is cut too close.

Why the fear of applique?

The fear is cutting too close. In Sue's purses you cut close but these you have to allow more or the fabric pulls through. That is what happened to the whites of one of these owls.
