I have to say I just purchased embird and am quite pleased with how easy it is to understand and work with. I also have a viking (ruby) but only the 5D orgainizer. I have been embroidering for about 2 years now so this is a good step for me to take,

I would love to help you, as well. I self -trained for over six months before I was able to schedule the 3 day course with the dealer when I first bought my 3d. I am now discovering 4d, again by my self. Please feel free to ask away. Use the private sector.

I have the Viking Designer SE LE and 4D software, I wish I could help you but I still have alot to learn about how to use the software, especally the organizer, where I bought it hasn't been much help to me.

I have the 4D software and I love it. There is so much I can do with it, but there is a learning curve.

I have gone from 3d to 4d and am considering 5d! I love it, but it has one limitation, it won't let me convert whole bunches of folders at one time like buzz tools! I use 4d and I do not digitize, but I edit extensively. Organizer has a job to do, it allows you to view your designs. You can then copy, cut, paste or delete from that screen. You can convert to another format or convert to a photo (so you can send it to others on e-mail so they can choose just which design they like). Organizer is limited to those options. If you have Extra, you can edit, change colors, remove parts of designs, join/merge designs on the computer. Some of that can be done on the machine screen, but it is much easier in 4d. Please don't give up on it! I would not spend money on another program, even if it seems easier, before you get the hang of this one. It isn't hard, and there will still be a learning curve on any new program. Please ask us! We want you to succeed! Linda

I've used Husqvarna software for 14 years, updating from 3D Pro to 5D Pro a year ago. I had no lessons for any of them. And I've used Embird for over 3 years.

I don't find one more difficult than the other to understand, but setting nodes is different in the two systems and I prefer Embird in this respect.
3D has over 100 fonts built in, you have to buy those for Embird.
Quick Font (3D) and Font Engine (Embird) let you make your on lettering from fonts you have on your computer. QF is simpler to use.
You have to make connecting stitches as you go in 3D, which makes careful planning of the stitching order a must. In Embird it can be done afterwards, but you still have to plan if you want to digitise efficiently.
3D has over 100 fill stitches to choose from and a lot of motif fills plus the 'stamps' you can apply, Embird has far less of the first two, but you can learn to make your own and it has a carving tool.

I'm happy with Embird, but I would advise you to get to grips with 3D first, follow the tutorials on the CD, they are a very good introduction to digitising and there are several for all the different parts of 3D. I learned everything from watching those.
