Sorry not much. I made up little packs of thread,needles,unpicker and buttons etc for all the girls in my family.

I am ashamed to say .... Nothing. I loaned a lady in our area clothing patterns and when i got them back half the pieces were missing and the patterns were all crunched up!!! My stuff stays in my home. I am happy to help people if they come to my home and use my stuff where I can keep an eye on it :)

I would, maybe, depending on the person lend them one of my quilting books. Nothing else leaves my room. Hugs..Carol

Luckily I have not many people around me that sew, so it hardly ever is asked. I normally would lend out most things.

Sorry but I have to say "nothing" as things in the past have either not been returned or been returned damaged/bits missing. However, if they come to me and use my bits with me there then almost anything, but NOT, under any circumstances, my machines! Does that sound selfish?

I am not sure I would loan out anything. I would probably give away some material or thread to someone special but not anything I use in my sewing.

I would loan out a printed sewing pattern Example a McCalls or Simplicity. I would loan out thread but that is about it.

I might lend out my 30 year old kenmore sewing machine, but NEVER the Viking SE.

I like the saying"Neither a borrower nor lender be" It can cause hard feelings when you get your item back damaged or not at all. What would they need they could not afford themselves other than a embroidery machine? I say don't mess with my stuff,I won't mess with yours and everyone will be a lot happier.

I lent a overlocker to a friends mother once,she pawned it! found out by chance and had to buy it back. so from now on ..if they can't afford their own,I'm pretty sure they can afford to replace mine!

piece of chalk lol, I do it every sew often with the Gks. Under close Gramma watch of course. Very choosey but have a few patterns. Will share even own ideas but the tools stay in my club house.

I have some old sewing machines that I don't use. If anyone wants to borrow one of those, I guess that would be OK.

WOW I am really surprised, how about straight pins? I think that is probably the one thing I am not fussy about lending out! You see I usually end up putting them in my mouth sew I don't want others doing the same, but if a friend wanted to use a few I would just give them to her!We have all kinds a gadjets in our sewing rooms from pins & needles to stitch rippers & the like, You honestly wouldn't just loan something small like these to a friend? I have to say I don't believe you, you are such a caring bunch of woman & giving of help in your own area of expertise, you have jumped in with both feet to help out the charity quilts & sew sew much more... I think if a friend asked you to borrow a stitch ripper because she misplaced hers & hadn't had a chance to replace it... you would loan her one of yours. Am I right?

My best friend has my laptop, her computer broke down and she is studying, she is a single mum and does not have very much money so I did not want her to get behind in her study. I hope I get it back in good condition, but I do trust her. I am very wary about lending anything to anyone else though. I lent thousands of dollars to both of my sons and they did not pay me back and now they don't even speak to me unless it is to insult me. So I totally agree with "never a lender or a borrower be".

Sorry, but after lending someone my steam iron I got it back broken, nothing goes out of my home. They don't treat your things with respect, and I will not lend my things out again. I think I am a terrible person, but yea, I feel that way. *****

not exactly lending, I have given fabrics, WSS, I did lend an iron and never got it back, This is not sewing related in a way, I gave my laptop to a freind to do some maintenace, after 5 months asking for it, finally she gave it back, she deleted all my embroidery software, thanks God the Embird family was quick to respond, the while i was trying to figure out how to install Embird (not very nimble with computer) I clicked somewhere, I my surprise each member of the family has a folder and tons of things in it, I was so mad, the whole family were using my laptop!!!!! The only one with not folder was the dog.

NOTHING. I do not usually get my things back. If they want to know where I get things at. I will tell them. NO BORROWING. Period.

Years ago I did alot of sewing and desiging of costumes for one of the dancing groups my children use to dance to. I had a partner at the time and she was using my patterns. I moved and my patterns somehow got lost in the shuffle and my friend couldn't find my patterns. Just last year my little grandaughter joined the same group. Funny enough my patterns were returned to me through my daughter. 12 years later. Getting back to the question I do lend out items to my daughters. But never my sewing machines. I gave them old machines to do their work on so they don't ask me.

Any thing you loan out, you have to consider you have given it away. It does come back sometimes...but more often it does not. I share my patterns, but put my name in bold on the front of the pattern envelope. They USUALLY come home! I think we don't really mean to keep something, but it gets all caught up in our sewing stuff! I returned a friend's Q foot & just the other day I found the BOX it was in! She never said anything...but I'll be taking her box to her! See, even I don't always return everything, even if it is the box! (the whole thing was in a zip lock bag & I had put the foot back into that.)

Ladies I feel that I must apologize it would appear that alot of you have had really horid experiences with "borrowers" in the past & I certainly didn't intend to bring up hurtful memories for anyone! Please forgive my ignorance. Hugs & ***********4ALL, Loralye

I loned my machine to a lady and she brought it back when she said she would in good condiyon How ever I loned a sewing foot when she brought it back I put it in something thinking I would not for get what I did with it and I hav not found it sence then but I was the one that miss placed it.

I have too much money invested to loan out any of my machines. I have found out that whatever you loan anyone they do not take care of it because it is not theirs. That's not being ugly; we work hard to pay for these machines and to have them worked on is not cheap and the person you would loan them to would not pay to have it fixed so No, I do not loan my machines out. You can come to my house where I can supervise but that is all. Roberta

You know, I think the thing is, when someone asks to borrow something like a sewing machine, it's usually because they don't own one so therefore have no real clue how to use it.. hence they break it. I'm surprised how many people have asked if they can borrow my machine to learn to sew !!!!!!!!!!! NO. Come & sit with me & I can teach you (on one of my older machines)

Only if it's something I'm not concerned if I don't get it back. My son borrowed a pair of my fav. scissors - he lived about hr. away. He met his wife at that time and later moved in together and when I was there one time something go mentioned about scissors and she laughingly commented about a really good pair she had that she kept out of sight. I figured if she liked them that much - keep them. I had a couple pairs of those anyway and figured OK - I get a new pair! (She'd have given them to me if I'd said anything.)

It all depends on who it is that needs to borrow it. I would trust my sisters with my own life, how many sisters do I have?

I would not let my embroidery machine out of my sight lol.But I do have several old sewing machines that have been handed down ..I get them serviced and ready in case someone needs one or I have to show someone how to sew.. Fabric I always have enough to share..My scissors ahhhh they are off limits!!Everyone in the family knows to stay away from the scissors lol..They cut cardboard well hmmmmlol And don't be worried about the question,it's good to see we are not the only one out there..We all share similar feelings and issues..It's good to vent also..hugs and have a terrific day!!!

I don't think your question was meant to bring up hurtful memories. I loaned out several things and never got them back. One time I loaned out some patterns to a neighbor and when I got them back several pieces where missing. Fortunately I had another pattern similar to it that I could use. Now I only loan out things I don't mind not getting back, lol! We all have those experiences. Thats the way life is. I just laugh at it now. Keep up your great questions!!!

I hate to loan anything! I usually never see whatever it is again or it needs repairing or replacing when I get it back. The last two things I loaned my son, I most likely will never see again. I have(had 3 different size) Xyron machines. I, of course use the two samller ones mosre often that the huge one but I never thought I waould have to replace the largest one when I loaned it to my son, 3 yrs ago!!! I have asked him to return it several times and the last time I asked for it when I was at his house, he said he did not know where it was. It has been that way with him since he lest home. That was 8 yra ago! He borrowed my good calculator to do his taxes and I have never seen it again. The last time I asked him for it I was told that the only calculator he had was his! Every tool and garden equipment I had when I was sick and hospitalized so long is at his house and he refuses to let me have them back! I do not loan anything to him any longer!!!If I am not willing to give it to him, it stays at my house. I sent a cake home with my neighbor on one of my plates and it took him 3 yrs to return it! He is several yrs younger than my son who is now 45 and he has 4 daughters that he has custody of from junior in high school to 3rd yr at Ga Tech. He brought it back after he moved out. He was back over there cleaning up his house and dropped it off when he left. I think all guys/men are the same. My X and that goes back over 35 yrs ago would never loan anything to any of his siblings. He would go and buy it for them before he would loan his things! My best friend has two of my pressure cookers. She has had them for 8 yrs or longer. I finally just told her to keep them and I would replace my old one that I used all of the time. I really did not mind giving them to her because she helped me so much when I was sick and in the hospital/nursing home. Everything I bought for myself I would buy her one just like it for several yrs until I moved 4 hrs away from my friends and family! NO! NO! NO! I try to never loan anything!

if I'm in a sewing class: my mat, cutter, rulers, pins, etc.
otherwise: NOTHING!!!
