Cuties,I'm being really,really naughty,let me explain,I have a bernina artista 630,which I love,Iknow my machine,there's nothing I can't do with it,it's my precious!now early december,my husband a surprise gift,the singer futura xl 550,2 weeks later he asked me if I had tried it yet,excuse..that I was busy sewing gifts to take to uk,for christmas, when we got back ,he asked me again,excuse..I think I should get a laptop,to use only with the singer,the sweetheart,once again surprised me with a gift,a new laptop,(yes I am spoiled,but I spoil hubby too)its now april.and I still haven't touch it.I really dont know why?I don't know if ill be disapointed,or if I'm so secure in using the bernina,I don't know a thing about the singer futura,has anyone got one,can you give me a pep talk or a kick in the rump,today I printed the whole manual out and filed it nicely!! but that's it. I really appreciate that hubby went out and bought me this gift,so what's holding me back?? please help,regards lesley

I don't know anything about the singer machine. But perhaps it's like old shoes. You are so used to the old ones that fits you well and are still comfortable, you keep walking as long as possible on these even if you have a brandnew pair ready to use. At least that's how it is with me. But perhaps you have to make a start to get used to the new machine, and discover this one is comfortable too. Keep us updated. Hugs, Gerry

Hi Lesley, Maybe, secretly, down under it all, you really wanted a new Bernina. Maybe you could explain to your sweet hubby how you know all about Berninas and all your designs are for Bernina, you would just like to trade the new Singer in for a newer Bernina. There is nothing wrong with wanting the same format as you are used to. He sounds' like a guy who would understand. It's called Brand Loyalty.

He is a sweetie, however he does not understand the amount of time required to learn a new system. I have been studying for days and will continue at this pace (slow) until I am there. I understand the brand thing and if there is no ego involved I would say - "Hun??? sewing machines are a lot like cars, once you find the maker you like, you go with them time and time again." Yes, I do understand. I'm a Bernina person too, but to keep hubby happy and show that you DO appreciate everything go to the Singer shop, let them demonstrate the machine, go home and just try it out. I'm sure you will love it also. It's like having a child that you love and then you get pregnant again, give birth to the new baby and you ALSO love it. Believe me you can love more than one machine. Just start on a quiet day, and you'll get the hang of it very soon. I've got 3 different brands and you get used to the differences in no time at all once you give it a go. Before long you'll know exactly which machine does which job best - like applique on one and all FSL on the other. Have fun with the new one!!

I get to "play" on a lot of diff brand machines.
I have a crowd of elderly people/friends and they call me if they are stuck with minor problems with their machines or all their overlock threading,oiling and cleaning.
I have an obsession of making them shiny and whizzy(oil in the right place),and adjusting tensions.
I would love to see what your new Singer can do.
Just put it up ready to sew, and give it a whizz..LOL..
Bernina Fans seem to be the most timid to try other brands..I have 3 Berninas.

Give it a try - who knows!!?? you might find you like it just as much. Your problem is probably that you are already comfortable with the one you have and are not sure of the new one. It probably does things the old one doesn't. That also is the same if it was the same brand! I know when I first got my new one (I picked it out!), it took me 2 wks. before I touched it and another 2 months before I used the embroidery (I had never used or done ME before).

You won't know what it can do until you give it a try. I must say I like my brother pr620 more than my pr1000 and the 1000 is a far superior machine from a technical point of view. I am just used to my pr620, but because I usually need 2 machines going I am getting used to the 1000, so get going and give it a spin.

If you take your Bernina in for a cleaning it will be out of the house and you can learn your new machine. Good luck on your dilemma.

I just got a singer futura 500 three week ago and am atill learning about all it will do and trust me it does so much more than my brother se-350. So far I am very impressed with the fact I find it easy to use. But just can't part with my old machine. I hope you will deciede to try yours out and please keep us informed with the results be it good or bad. Good luck with everything....

I have the Singer Futura XL400 and love it!! Singer Girl is her name and no problems with her at all. I can finally do larger designs! Yahoo.

I would start using it ,just in case there are any problems with it because the warranty might run out before you discover any problems.
I bought the first futura that came out & the embroidery unit was a WHITE elephant ,no sooner than it was fixed about 10 designs later it wouldn't work & had to be fixed again.Just after I got it my shoulder froze & I couldn't manage to hoop the fabric without causing pain to my shoulder , so it wasn't used for months & the warranty was up & the dealer didn't even charge me but I gave up with it in the end.Started to save up a better machine which I eventually got years later
