Anyone have any special tricks or tools they use to keep their garment out of the way? Like chip clips, etc.? I was embroidering some small children's shirts and had to sit and constantly babysit the machine making sure everything was out of the way and not going to get under the needle or underneath the hoop. I want some magic gadget!! Thanks..Vickie

you can try some of those big rounded hair clips. Clover products now his clips made for quilting but should also work on your embroidery projects

on my PR600, I use mini clamps.. all the time, I got a bag of 10 from my local diy store for £1.. just be careful that these dont restrict your hoops movement at all,
I normally hoop, place on machine then place the clamps on to hold the garment out of the way ensuring that the clamps do not interfere with the hoops movement or the machine head :-)

Personally, I don't think these would be advisable on ordinary domestic embroidery machines, if they weren't too heavy, they would probably restrict the movement of the hoop and cause problems. My husband uses these in his workshop.
I agree Meganne. My small machine would never cope with such big clamps.
Maybe I need to tell my husband I need a big machine like that so I can use those clamps! I would love love love to have a multi needle machine...maybe someday!! I have had my Pfaff for years but would love a larger embroidery field!!

Vicki- I too have a Pfaff. I am just learning to ME so it is my started machine for many years to come. Can you use any formats besides VIP & PCS?

I've often used regular wooden clothes pegs or pinned the excess fabric to the stabiliser that's outside the hoop's edge. Those clips in Maria's pic look pretty handy though!

The clips sound like an excellent idea., but I still think I'd stay and watch even with clips ... just in case.

Vickie I quite often use hair clips, they come in a variety of sizes from tiny to large to keep fabric away from needle while embroidering/Lillian

I use also hair clips, different sizes depends on the hoop/ material I'm using. I saw this one one a photo in the projects tab. Since then I use it too. Practical. Not expensive too

Sorry, but for some smaller articles, it just goes with the territory.
For others I use Pegs or I fold up the excess fabric and pin it with quilting pins, slightly longer to hold more fabric.

I do this too Meg, I just pin it out of the way and fold it down onto the outfit. Love Chris

Pegs are what we Aussies call clothes pins .. peg our washing to our Hill's hoists (washing line). :)
LOL...I learned something new!!
Pegs have a variety of uses ,plastic pegs are light ,idle for holding in place rolled up sections of garments etc.Useful for holding together items that need glueing together too.

I never hoop my garments - but pin them down - so the excess I also pin down and out of the way.

No matter how well i think I have the excess fabric clipped out of the way, the minute I leave the machine it immediately joins in the embroidery!!

I use 3/4 to 1 inch painters tape. I roll it up then use the tape to hold it in place. That way I can put it where I want it and it is out of the way of the hoop and machine.

The painters tape does not stick to the material.
I mean the residue does not stick to the material.
I also like masking tape,no residue and cheap

I use binder clips that you purchase in office supply stores. work great and you can buy in different sizes.
