Well, that was the age that my youngest GS asked me to make him a quilt for his bed....he helped me pick the pattern, and the colors to do it. He still has it, but it is now hanging on his wall.

I think a 12 year old would like a nice jean jacket with a cool embroidery on the back. Something that has a lot of movement and is hip with his friends. That design I do not know! Live Laugh Download Stitch!

Think of sport. does he play any? For a golfer a nice small bag that he can clip on for the T's and a smalish towel to hang on his bag, every golfer needs one of those. Other sport might other things like a shoe bag or so. Good luck

I would by a sport bag or so and sew a nice design on it, ex the angry birds ( famous game at this moment on Ipad/ iphone) but i'm not sure if you can buy the design. Do you know some things which interests him ?

You have a lot of good ideas so you will probably laugh at this but boys love machines & usually the faster they go the better so when he gets there you might let him pick out a design and put it on something.

I just bought a cute design for my 9 year old grandson at the link below. If he likes computers and games as most do these days he might like this design on a t-shirt or jacket back. I have some neighborhood children that are 10 and 11 and they would love it too. I think a 12 year old would still like it as well. It says 'I'd Rather Be Playing Video Games'. http://www.emblibrary.com/el/Products.aspx?CS_Catalog=Emblibrary&CS_ProductID=F9864

What did you made on the shirts? Did he like them? Did you have some pics from the last months where you can see a little bit of his hobbies or his room?
Maybe his mother can give you some hints about his interests (sports, pc-games, musicgroups...).
A bag for sport or a cap will be cool for a boy at this age :o)

Thanks for this question, and thanks to all for the great ideas. I also have a 12 year old grandson and have a hard time with ideas for him. I don't think I would let him touch my machine though. His 4 year old sister is more careful and attentive.

I'm going to make a wild and crazy lap quilt for my 12 year old grandson. Blacks and neons and batiks with lots of triangles. He will LOVE it - as long as it isn't girly in any way :-)

How about a quilt out of some of the T-shirts you made him?

I would make a sweat shirt or jacket out of fleece and then let him choose what design he'd like on it.. maybe in the form of a badge... good luck with whatever you do.

You have been given many good ideas. It all depends what his interests are at this point so as you haven't seen for a long time, consulting his mother is a good idea. I'm sure you'll come up with something good.
