Digitizing and Editing software questions. I just looked at MasterWorks II and it looks really good. Anybody out there using it now? Anybody have comparisons to PE Design Next or Embird? My local store will support and give lessons for the MasterWorks so that's a plus. I have been considering upgrading my PE Design to the PE Design Next but was told that if I didn't like the original one I wouldn't like the upgrade either. Expensive, but I can turn in my old PE Design and get it for more than 1/2 off. I would have to transfer all my cards to computer files or floppys before I get rid of it because I wouldn't have a card reader anymore. But on the other hand I need to never give up the old computer for the current PE Design to work anyway. Decisions, decisions...

I own Designer Galleries Studio Plus and Sizer. I am very happy with those programs. Sorry sewmom know nothing about digitizing. Hope you can get some answers

It seems a while since you posted this question. Have you tried any of the support groups to help you with PE design. The PE design was not cheap well it isnt in the UK. have you seen http://www.memories-in-thread.net/ which has CD's on digitising?

It's not intuitive/user friendly. I didn't learn it well either. Now that I have a laptop I can take it to classes if I get the upgrade. But it was harder before, I took 1 class by borrowing a laptop.

I have Masterworks and Pallette. I say go with the one that is supported by your local store. I like some things in Masterworks and others in Pallette. You have to tryt hem to find out if they are for you. I had tried some others and found them complicated. These are user friendly. I have all the Babylock software and love it.Card readers are passe. Now everything is on CD, sticks setc... You will like it. Suzanne

I have designers Gallery too works great and easy.
The big problem with losing the card readers are my Disney designs. I will only be able to see them on my machine, I can't transfer them to a floppy or save them to a file on the computer because they are copyright protected. Trust me, I tried.

We use Masterworks II and love it. Don't really have anything else to compare it to. Have looked at Phaff's a time or two. My husband is the one that knows it fairly well. Maybe you could personnal message him with questions. Hugs & Stitches, Liz

Well he isn't on the cuties but could very easily. Right now is at work and can't do outside commputer stuff but after 2:30pm on Mon. He teaches MWII at our local fabric/quilt shop and is in the process of being Baby Lock certified. I have learned alot so I know he can help.
He will sign up onto the cuties. I just spoke to him and he says the trade in is a very good deal especially if you have support at your local shop. He is more than willing to answer any questions you have if possible.

Hi, I have PE Design Next and love it! I did the upgrade from ver. 6 and am really happy with it. PE Design 6 is still on my computer, so I am able to use both. The upgrade is very user friendly and you can customize the tool bars and much more. Many benefits. If you need any help, questions or info on tutorials/lessons (I give lessons), just let me know.

I think my big question is between pe next and masterworks II. Can pe next do everything that MW does? I realized that the card reader can go but now it's just that I'm so used to Brother and I have a Brother machine that it's hard to let go. I know MW can create pes and many other formats so that's a plus. I use floppies to get designs from the computer to the machine and the cards that don't transfer go into the machine directly anyway.
Meanwhile I messed up a wedding gift and didn't notice that some lettering was crooked until i was framing It. It's minor but I have to redo the whole thing.

As far as I know Palett 9 (PE Next can do everything Masterworks does. Masterworks is more user friendly. I LOVE Masterworks and if you have the opportunity to get it at a reduced rate, go for it. I would not trade it for the world.

I have Palette 9 (PE Next) and there is a Yahoo group that is run by Carol Price. She also has a tutorial which has video and written details on how to use software and is available in her Yahoo group for individual questions about use. I also have the Janome Pro MB3 software which I really like. Janome has new MBX which I am looking to upgrade to. Trevor Conquergood at Sunset Stitches has a webinar series (two per month about 2 hrs each) that I subscribe to..only $10 per month..This is an excellent resource for anyone who digitizes with any software. I have other Design digitizing software but prefer Masterworks II. I have had Masterworks II for 3 years and love it. It very user friendly and is easy to use. I like that it is able to create designs in different machine formats as we have an industrial machine with a different machine language than my Babylock. I am also able to easily alter a design that I have created.

Thank you. I'm trying to use the free trial download but I'm stuck. I think maybe I need a dongle but that doesn't make sense for a free trial.
I got a free CD with the trial Masterworks program from my dealer...had to have internet connection when installed and then had to go to site to register the trial...it bogged down my computer so much I had to dump it...never did get the trial program to work. Hope you have better success...Good Luck!
I got the free download to work. Just had to say ok to the dongle question even though I didn't have one. Customer service replied to my question within a day.

"never give up the old computer for the current PE Design to work anyway"--Why? I love my PE-5 & Brother has patches for XP, thru 7..I also have PE-4 that connects via serial/parallel port, but USB adaptor is available. With v4 I got Loes van Heijden teaching CD w/38 videos for digitizing--he says you can do anything with 4 that you can do with any other version. So I don't even consider changing. Unless my present copy dies!! Seriously, I'd like to know why your PE won't work on another computer. :-}

My old desktop (which is dying and will probably be trashed soon) runs XP and has the PE Design 5.61. My new laptop has Windows 7. I've heard of upgrading the software, for a cost, to run on Windows 7 but I haven't heard of a patch.
I don't know the upgrade cost yet. MW II costs $2200 but if I turn in my Pe Design I can get it for $800.
Upgrade to PE Next Palette is $600.

Not for 64 bit, tho.
I'll look but I think I'll be able to do everything that pe does plus more and easier too on MW. I've hardly used pe design digitizing because it's not easy so why would I upgrade to the same thing?
I downloaded a trial of MW II and I'm playing with it.

Windows 7 can run any software designed for XP. If your computer is dying, just make sure the new one you get has the physical spot for the adapter and that it comes with Windows Professional or Ultimate. You can then use the Virtual machine inside Windows 7 to load and run any XP programs. When you buy the computer make sure the saleperson shows you how to get the Virtual machine going. Now you have another choice for your decision. Good luck!

I have PE design 7, I had it already on my windowsXP and it runs perfect on windows 7 too.
even the old files made in Pe version 4 can be opened without problem.
