A hug for you. I finally purchased an external portable hard drive last summer and I love it. Every download of designs goes straight to it. I got tired of sending to Cd's. I actually lost a bunch of designs trying to store them on Cd's. long story ,but due to my own stupidity. The freebies were gone forever, but the purchased ones took me over a year to recover. I keep very good purchasing records and the few sites that were unwilling to help me, I never bought anything from them a gain. I am always sensitive to others when they loose designs. Have you tried running a search on your whole computer?
I lost some and did this.... they were in my documents????
Have no idea how they got there.

SOrry to hear this, run a search on your computer. They may have gotten hid somewhere. Also check your recycle bin. Just in case you deleted them, they may still be there. Hopefully you find them. Hugs, Mary

I am sooo Sorry about your loss Lucy! I went through that with a flash drive. Had all my designs on it and it stopped working, no way to retrieve designs. So now I back up often. Hope you can go to the sites you purchased from & redownload. Hugs & Loves, Judy

When you back up don't just rely on one item. Put them on a external hard drive, a memory stick, maybe even two or three. I've heard of external hard drives going back, CD's going bad and even memory sticks going bad.

I don't download on my desktop I put them right away in their folders on a USB stick. I almost lost all of mine when my USB stick would not work & I know how you feel I was devastated, but my computer person was able to get that USB stick to download to a new one. Now I keep a backup of all my designs on another USB stick. It is also a good idea to keep them backed up on CD's. Our embroidery files mean so much to us & it takes so long to accumulate them. I know how you feel as it is a devistating feeling to lose so many that you have worked so hard to collect.

I do feel your pain Lucy. I lost an entire 300 gig hardrive through negligence. Don't EVER remove a portable drive from your computer while it is on, without uninstalling it first. Hugs, Carol

Sorry for your loss. I download all files to a file on my desktop and then unzip and sort when time permits. All embroidery files are stored on the computer as well. I also use an external hard drive where a duplicate of all of these files are stored and managed by a Microsoft program called SyncToy. Whenever I change something on the computer it will change it on the backup as well and all I have to do is tell the program to run (generally takes only a couple minutes) at the end of the day. Lucy I know how you feeling. I had to reload and resort all my designs in February. I lost alot of my designs which I had been saving and did not have them backed up.

I have backed up on an external hard drive that I've had for a while as my son had told me to do that so I wouldn't lose all my pictures. That was a couple years before I started doing ME. Then with all the stories from other cuties about one of their backups going bad and not to back up only one way, but several so if something happens to one you still have another source.
You have gotten some good suggestions from a couple cuties that I found very informative.
