Pirate hat.

My granddaughter wanted a pirate hat. I had a wool felt cone in my millinery stash, steamed and formed the brim, which I left raw. I may have to add a headband to make it fit. Then I digitised a drawing and tried to stitch that directly on the brim, but run into a lot of trouble, so I appliqued the embroidery instead.

Thank you. It's a birthday present for the 8th next month - think she will, she's very much into dressing up at the moment.

I bet she loves it. I too, like the idea of the appliqued patch then only a square shows from the back side. Did you make another patch for her eye?????

As I started embroidering on the brim it still shows at the back, but I astened the brimto the crown with a few stitches.
No patch for the eye yet - don't know wheteher she'd like that.

This is why there is a G for GRAND in the name GRANDmother. Love the thought using felt so hat will wear great, the pirate girl patch applique looks great. Better actually appliqued it stands out!

Wonderful. I did a cloche hat with merino roving using the needle felt method over foam form. It was fun but far from perfect. Yours looks good.

I bought the materials for hat making either as cloches or capelines. But since embroidery has overtaken a lot of millenary materials and all head and brimblocks are hiding in a cupboard.
