my granddaughter went to a garage sale & bought these for 5cents? Can anyone tell me what they are supposed to be? The one on the left appears to be done & the one on the right isn't?

These look like huck weaving. Embroidery threads are woven through the raised threads of the huck fabric. Done on dish towels or guest towels. I think it is also called Swedish weaving.I did it in the 70's!

I am still using some of these dish towels I made for my mom YEARS ago! They just don't wear out! If I remember correctly, the ends are woven back thru some of the stitches on the back. You may want to finish these off & use them! Either as towels or as a dollie type thing for table.

Used to have a few towels with this method of weaving. My mom had made them but her pattern wasn't this fancy. It was a quick way to put color on a plain towel.

If the material has a distinctive 'floating' thread, [which is then used to weave through]then the craft would be Huckaback Embroidery. Too small to see the exact detail in you photo, but it very likely to be Huck Emb. This was used to decorate many household things, in particular, hand towels and the like. The above picture is a fine example.

I have just had a closer look. There is not a 'float', so it is probably not Huck Emb.

I believe this to be swedish weaving/embroidery. Some may refer to it as huck embroidery. I have heard it called all three. It is a type of embroidery which is done on huch toweling. Huck toweling has two raised threads on one side and the design is worked by going under the two raised threads. I have done a lot of this work years back. Very simple technique and very versatile as you can change looks by using parts of a design.

Yes, they are tea towels. I had pieces similar to this with several small designs done as a pattern piece. As stated earlier,individual designs could be made by using parts of a design/designs to create a unique piece.

everything I could find on the net indicates Huck was done with embroidery floss or threads not yarn, are we sure that this is Huck if is not then what else could it be?
