I'd like an opinion, please, for a Mother's day idea. My mom will be 80 this summer, and doesn't need any clothes, decorations, anything to dust around, etc. So my idea is to embroider her some sets of pillowcases--with pretty floral/vine type decorations. What do you think?

What about something she liked when she was little?

Hi Jennifer, I like your idea of the pillow cases. My mom is 83. Last year I made her some place mats with matching towels. She loves hummingbirds so I used the jacobean hummers from emblibrary. Year before I made her a lap quilt with her favorite flowers. I'm sure whatever you come up with your mom will cherish it. Hugs..Carol

I think she will like the pillowcase idea. She may enjoy beautiful designs stitched on a couple of throw pillows for her sofa or bed. (Just a thought). Decorative pillows are seen often, and she can think of all the love you stitched for her, as she goes about each day!

Thank you for the pillow idea too. I never thought of that. I haven't ever done an embroidered pillow. That could be lots of fun.
A heart shaped pillow is what I made Mom for her 90th birthday. two heart pieces of fabric and added lace and lavender. She loved it. Did not embroider it as that was before I got my machine.had already done pillow cases and lace on hand towels before.

I had hand cross-stitched a jewelry bag when my mom was in her 80's and she loved fruit so I would also take a bowl of her favorite fruits. You could do the pillow cases and make some food item that she don't get to have very often that you know she likes.

That's a good idea too. My mom has a fabulous garden, with peaches and plums and berries. I can't even grow mold!

I am in the age group that you are asking about. The nicest gift that my daughter gave me was a day at the spa. A pedicure and manicure. I really enjoyed it, especially spending special time with the two girls. I have five boys and too much fruit aand candy are not always as appreciated as a hair cut or pedicure.

Thanks for your input. I've gathered lots of ideas from cuties. My daughters and I and my sister plan to spend the day with her.
