this is the back of the ticking towel that I am making for my mom for Mother's Day: I am showing the back sew you can see my dilema what if anything can I put on the back of it to hide this? I would really rather not add another pc of the ticking & sew it & turn it right side out as it is a fair bit of $$$. I was thinking that there might be something like what you put on the back of a baby thing sew that it won't scratch their sensitive skin? I can't think what that is called but I was wondering what else I could do? I used md weight interfacing as this is a pretty dense design

Can see what you mean now. There are some softer stabilisers that you could glue on or something, but I think the one I have would perhaps shred over washing. How about a box, oval or cloud shape around the design that you could add -and put a layer of fabric beneath the hoop then just that shape would be backed?

I mean create a frame around the embroidery so you can add a backing fabric under the hoop.

If all else fails you might put it in a frame or on a tray with a glass top or maybe a bag could be fashioned out of it.

I just had a thought when I saw your towel. How about if you sewed a hemmed band on the back side of the towel, a little bit wider than the embroidery design, to cover up and protect the embroidery, and to give that finished look. You could even bring it around to the front side, tucking the ends under, almost like a frame for your design. Choose colors that would compliment your design and your towels. I think that is how I would approach this particular issue (since I haven't embroidered towels yet). Good luck!!

That will be so pretty. The stuff you are asking about to iron on the back for scratching sensitive skin is by Sulky called Tender Touch, I use it all the time.

Thank you all sew much for your help I think that this "brainstorming" has given me an idea that just might work! If I take the tender touch stabilizer & sew a pc of fabric to it & then swing it to the front it will cover the back & add trim to the front! I have to go & see if I can do this

Loralye did you use cut away stabiliser? I only ever use tear away when making tea towels as it comes away from the design much easier. To cover this up you could use iron on "Cloud Cover" I'm not sure what it's called over there. I also put this on the inside of T-shirts for the grandchildren or any top I've made as it stops itching. Love Chris

I always use the same colour on top as well as the bottom. This way your 'wrong' side will not be so obvious and it looks good enough for me. Also have had many compliments by doing it this way. Only thing is it does take much longer to stitch out because you have to change your bobbin frequently, hope this helps, hugs S*

Yes, this is the best way to do towels so as you say , can be reversable. I would also use water solvable "woven" type stabilizer so that wont show either after wash .
