Hi everyone! I am from the UK and just found your really cool site!

I need to know if I can download any other formats than .vp3 on to my Husky Topaz? I didn't get the software with it as I already have the DRAWings 5 embroidery software but I cannot save to .vp3 on this programme. I hope someone can help :(

Welcome to cute,
I would think you should be able to download other formats, I have 5d and can download anything and then I convert them to hus. or vp3
hope this help and if not someone else will surely give you additional info

Thanks, I don't have the 5d - I purchased the machine 2nd hand and the seller sold the software separately (how mean!). I already had the DRAWings software so thought it would be ok - how wrong was I!!

Oh that means that you will need some kind of software to download designs. Try www.embird.net
you can try their software free for 30 days before deciding to buy it and you can do many more things with it as well.

Is VP3 the only format you can use?

Hi and welcome to Cute. Where did you get your DRAWings 5 softwear from? I think I would contact them and ask for help. (I have just had a quick look about it but have to get a load of work done tonight for tomorrow so apologies that I cant do more) Which bit of the UK are you in as there are a number of us in the UK?

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome! I got the DRAWings 5 from the US and actually paid extra for the upgrade to DRAWings 6 which is supposed to convert and digitize designs in .vp3 format (the only format my Topaz will open!). Unfortunately the programme is very new and the designers are looking at this problem I am having as we speak - hopefully it will be ok soon, but they have suggested I open my designs in HUS or VIP which my machine will not do.

I am from Hull in East Yorkshire - where are you from?

vp3 might be the preferred format as it holds colour information, but vip, hus, pes, jef and dst as well as a few others work just as well (at least on my Ruby). As long as you can put it on the usb-stick you are fine.

Welcome to Cute! If you need a particular format, download the free wilcom trusizer or pulse ambassador and then you'll be able to change them to the format you need. Hope this is a little bit of help.

Welcome! Yes, you can use several formats with your Topaz, and vp3 is just one of them. VIP, HUS, PES are a few that are readily available. There was a discussion here not long ago about which is better if you can't download vp3 and most of us agreed that PES gives colors most true, then VIP and finally HUS. I have a Diamond and use all the above and also SEW, XXX, even DST in a pinch (don't like the way the colors display in DST, you get lots of red, green, blue) but whichever format your SOFTWARE will read or convert from or too is the one you want to download. I would advise save in any format you can "see" in your software, then convert only the designs you want to actually use. I usually open in software and tweak, edit, change colors, etc. and then put on the flash drive to transfer to the machine. The MACHINE will read lots of formats, so use any that your SOFTWARE is comfortable. If you can view vp3, then save the vp3, covern to another format to use when you are ready to stitch. Clear as mud? Linda

Welcome to the best embroidery site in the world. I am a bit confused I thought you couldn't use the Husqvarna machines unless you have a dongle that allows you to use the software. I hope I'm wrong. I have the Husqvarna Deesigner 1 and need to have the dongle always attached to the back of my computer to enable me to download designs. I use VP3, VIP, Hus, Pes and DST as well but use other programmes such as WinRar, Pulse Ambassador and Wilcomtruesizer at different times. I hope you can get your answer. Love Chris

I have a Husqvarna-Viking Designer Topaz 30 which can read VP3 format only, with a USB port to insert a flash drive (theirs or other brands). It does not read VIP (I have tried) so I suppose does not read other formats too. For editing and converting formats I use mainly Embird Basic program which is not expensive. Also, for editing, I use 4D Embroidery Extra bought together with the Topaz. Actually, the basic 4D Embroidery was free with the machine and I paid the difference to get the 4D Embroidery Extra. The dongle came with the 4D Embroidery Extra, its purpose is to let me use the software installed in my computer, as it contains my personal info.
