Question of the Day for May 24th: I hope that you don't think this is a stupid question but everyone seems to be making owl potholders sew I was wondering, when & if you do (or already have) make any potholders are they just decorative or do you make them to use? & if just decorative why & if not why not? & if you do make them to use: do you put insul-bright in the middle of them? & If not what are you putting in the middle? Boy I sure hope this reads properly I have re-read it & corrected it 4 times! Thanks & have A GREAT DAY!

Good question! I've never made potholders so I am very interested in the answers you get.

I have never made any, I wanted to buy that owl design for potholders but I feel it is a bit too expensive for me to do so. I understand they use insul brite inbetween layers. It is supposed to be heat resistant.

yes it is & thank you I hope these answers help you out too! Hugs Loralye

Hi Loralye, I only use INSULBRITE in between layers when making pot holders. It stops you from getting burnt fingers. Love Chris

I haven't make any potholders. My daughter crochets me beautiful thick cotton ones, so I haven't even tried. They sure are pretty.

I'll be making these adorable owls for decorative purposes but will use insul-bright as you never know... I prefer to use the potholders I crochet from cotton yarn (like Parkermom).

Yes, I make them to use as well as for show. Insulbrite is great. It can be hooped without stabilizer and then the fashion/applique fabric put down and stitch. Then add lining on top and stitch around, cut out leaving a border and turn. I usually put a teaspoon or 2 of lavender in before closing. Smells so good.

The potholders from Mutz designs that all the cuties are making come 5x7. 6x8. 7x7 and 8x8 each design in the set. Hugs Joyce

Well owls are too small for potholders because I only have a 5 x 7 hoop. My first few owls I put warm and natural batting, but then I ran out and started putting in insul-bright. It works so much better. They don't get as wrinkled when done. Susan

I made a pair of oven mitts years ago and wore them out a long time ago. I put batting between - don't remember what. Now we have several different types of batting we can use. I bought a sample bag because it had the kind for tater bags and I also got some insul-bright and four other kinds, all for $5 (a promo). So as I now have the right kind of batting guess I'll have to make some!
