Do you gals,excuse me,Cuties know the dilemma you have got me into, since my earlier post about the denim ? My 19 year old grandson came to swim yesterday, as I was reading some of your replies.He was looking here with me.He liked the quilts and now wants me to make one for him AND I want to try some of the other suggestions. I think I would get bored b/4 I finished the quilt, takes too long, so I might NEVER finish it.haha Now see what you've done, with all your good imaginations? haha Thanks to all,Hugs-Toogie

My dear Husband said put the front of one pair of the jeans on the front of the quilt and squears of denham all around them the top will make up quickly and any 19 year old guy would love it. what do you think of that seems like all the guys want to get into the act. He! He! Hugs Joyce

How did you guees . Yes he has been retired for 12 months . As he was a painting contractor he thinks that am one of the men who needs his input. Tries to tell me what colours that I "should" have put in my latest project . I dont know how I managed the last 48 years doing it all by myself. He! He!. I agree, it's great that your grandson wants you to make him a quilt. I'm wanting to make one for my 14 year old grand son but am searching for something appropriate, boys would love cars I know but a quilt with embroidery would be rubbed raw, maybe embroidered cars around the outer edge of the top of the bed? I'll continue to search this.... GOOD LUCK!!

My son in law liked the fringed carrot on my quilt the best. So feel free to experiment and stitch. As long as you don't make "girly" designs, they are great. My son liked the abstract designs the best.

Well, for starters I'm just blown away by the fact that first of all you have a 19 year old grandson!!!! You look much too young. Gosh my eldest is only 6!!!! That is fantastic. A quilt will go very quickly. In fact, when you get it done, you'll look back and be disappointed that it is finished. And it will be a permanent bond between you and your grandson. I guarantee it. He will cherish it as one of his most valuable possessions. I would offer to help you, if you lived close. But I rather doubt that you do. Enjoy the process. Have him help you cut it out and put it together. Have fun!!

It doesn't need to be really dense designs for denim. If it's a raggy quilt, you should definitely get him to do all of the snipping of the raggy bits! It will help him feel ownership of the finished project and save some of your time consuming and hard work on your hands :) Sounds great to me. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with together.

Toogie, I think it is wonderful that you grandson wants you go make him a quilt - how about if you make it partly with denim and plaid cotton/flannel - that way - the denim will go farther for your projects and he will still get his quilt? But I agree - you need to have him help with it - because he suggested that you should make him one - doesn't mean - that he can't be put to use. It will give him an idea of all the work that goes into making something like that. Maybe he could even sew a seam or two.

Toogie, If I live long enough to see my grandson reach 19, I would be over the moon to make him a quilt and couldn't start on it quickly enough!

Can't helop but laugh Toogie, my 4 yr old Great already tells me "GiGi you've got to make me" etc. Be sure you put a label on that quilt. For Whom, By Whom and the date. Denium lasts a long, long time and it will be passed along for generations./Lill

I think it's great that a 19 year old would ask for one to be made! Right now my 22 & 21 yr. olds are asking for afghans (they already have quilts - no homemade ones) - quilts will probably come later, but the almost 12 yr. old GD is still wanting a quilt, but hasn't said anything (hers is in the works and is hard to do without her seeing what I'm up to).

He is a handsome young man and you are so lucky he wants you to make him a quilt. I've made several denim quilts from old jeans. The rag quilts are easier as the denim quilts are really heavy and bulky to work with if you make it a large one.He'll love it forever!

Toogie make the quilt from large blocks anywhere from 8 to 12 inches square. They look just as good and don't take near the time. Put one his favorite designs in each block, back with flannel and tie. Much quicker and easier for someone who doesn't like the time a quilt takes, like me, lol!

I won't get that big of sqs out of these jeans, remember I wore most of these when I was smaller. He likes deer, ducks,fishing. Real outdoorsman-Any in DBC ?
