I knew because of my Grandmother. She was the one who would make things for me with so much skill and LOVE! I watched her in awe as she created dresses for me. Because she was a busy woman and not much of a hugger, I never knew she loved me THAT much until I watched her sew for me. It was because of her that I decided to learn to sew.

I am sure the Teenager will treasure that bag for years and will remember your kindness. It doesn't take much and it doesn't have to be perfect. I am sure she felt it was a gift from the heart and was very happy that you felt her as part of the family.

A gift is a wonderful way to "accept" a person as a friend or family member. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder-she saw perfect...love this story.

I just hosted a Baby Shower for my daughter and I made about half of the game prizes. Those gifts where the ones that got the most oohs and aahs. I made simple things like tea towels, mug rugs, can coozies, coasters, those little kleenex holders with a package of kleenex in them, pot holders, little cases like for pencils or make up, and a bunch of other things. Just little things trying to use up my scraps stash, lol! I made a mug rug that the colors didn't come out right, the gal who got it thought it was great! It was an Uncle Sam and my machine gave me the wrong colors so instead of red white and blue it was purple, orange, and white. She loved it! I learned a lot from that Baby Shower. I was worried no one would like the homemade items I made too, and was pleasantly surprised by the response they received. Now I won't be so nervous about making gifts for showers again. I think we are our own worst critics when it comes to the things we make. The "mistakes" we see go unnoticed by those who really do appreciate our gifts, and only those who don't are the ones who really look to pick it apart.

I know as far as certain members of my family, but as for strangers??? Thanks for the reminder. When I think about it, I can remember a few instances about something I made for someone I didn't really know (all homemade as we didn't have the money to buy gifts - I even used recycled items).

I love giving my 'home-made' goodies to friends, who always appreciate it so very much. I do not, however give to my sister-in-law (married to my DH's twin) anything that I made, since she abhores home made gifts. So, I know my true friends and strangers who love my gifts. It is such a thrill when they love what you made with love and care. What a pleasure.****

You may be one of the few people this young girl has ever had do something special for her. Good for you. Sounds like you really made her day. She will never forget your kindness.
