I have done it by hand but not on machine. I imagine it would work the same way.By hand you put design on bottom piece lay top piece of fabric on top cut out a hole over top of design leaving a small margin to stitch with needle turn around design. I imagin by machine it would satinstitch around hole. Hugs Joyce

Probably depends on the design - I have a sanitizer holder that I make that has a hole for the top of the bottle and it is basically reverse applique. You stitch the guideline, cut out the center part, then it satin stitches the hole. The biggest difference is that you are cutting away the inside of the fabric instead of the outside of the fabric (like a regular applique). Cutwork is also a form of reverse applique.

I have a book on it with detailed instructions.... have had it over 10 years..... Never did it.... :( so I suppose that tells you I'm not much interested. However, I've seen it and it is beautiful if done right!

Reverse applique or applique done on the embroidery machine is really easy. You just have to make sure you cut on the right side of the fabric. HaHa.

Reverse Applique is super easy...instead of the applique fabric being satin stitched on top of the project (shirt Burpee etc.) you put the fabric underneath and cut away the fabric from the (shirt burpee etc.)..there are no satin stitches..
