I have been asked to put up a link for anyone interested in copyright information: There have been a few messages to the forum recently with regards to "Licensed" designs. What is a licensed design? Well the most famous ones that spring to mind are the Disney designs, I'm sure you all know the or have seen the Disney charactors. Snow White, Mickey and Minnie, Tinker Bell, Mater the car, Toy story, and countless more. Now Disney owns the copyright of every single charactor drawn by their animation artists, and are quite rightly very protective regards the use of those images.
Disney is not the only company that owns all the grapic copyrights of their images, most charactors you see on Childrens TV, or logo's used on items, or Graphics that have been produced are owned and not free for use without a license issued to do so by the company, artist or corporation that owns that image. But I'm going to look at the images which we as embroiderers or digitisers are most tempted to use.
The dealer was quite adamant that I should know the terms of owning the machine.
Now if we can just get more people to read it we will have succeeded in informing those coming along behind us and perhaps saved someone from costly prosecution.
Hugs and love, Meg
My problem is knowing the individual policies of the tons of digitizers selling online. It is simply too much for me to keep track of. So I no longer purchase from sites that do not allow you to sell items (craft show selling) that you use their designs on, or absolutley prohibit any changes to their designs (like if I want to stitch the animals, but not the barn), or other "run-of-the-mill" things that we routinely do for our personal use. While I know the ME police is not going to someone's house because they pasted a couple of designs together that was prohibited by the digitizer and stitched it on a tshirt, as a responsible citizen, you don't want to forget and put it on something for sale or even worry about it in the first place. There's probably a happy medium some place, I'm just not sure where.
