Hi Cuties....Question. I've been avoiding embroidery on dark colored towels/fabrics because I can't see my marking. What do you use to make your markings? Thanks Darmoola.

I use white tailors chalk on dark towels. there is also a white clover marker for dark materials. Hugs Joyce

They make a special white target sticker with crosshairs. You could buy plain white stickers and make your own crosshairs. There are special white markers just for dark fabrics and always a sliver of soap that can leave a mark.

I don't hoop them. I mark the stabilizer down the center, spray with 505 or other temp adhesive and fold the towel down the center and place with the top of the "trim line" on the bottom of my hoop. Never had one come out "off" yet.

I use a white fabric pencil. This particular one is made by Fons & Porter. They also come in green and pink. They can be erased and do wash out. I know there are other companies that make them.

I either use pins, or cut blue painter's tape into thin strips and make a crosshair. Pulls right off.

me too and I save the stick on tape that come on tee shirts ,cutting it into strips. Although I recently used it on a really cheap velour type towel and when I removed it right before I start to stitch some of the towel stick to it. ouch!! It almost left a bald spot. I have never had trouble on T- shirts. Kay

I use the chalk thing that has powdered chalk in it. It brushes off easily afterwards. However, don't use the blue! It didn't come off without washing! Only use the white.

Uh, me too. I'm lazy, I just eye it up, pin to stabilizer, and hit 'start'.
I thought I was the only one. I do a lot of measuring, but don't mark on the fabric - LOL
Nope I eyeball also. sometimes I fold in half ,length and crosswise, where the two cross is center I'll mark center with white chalk and go grom there.

I use Avery Mailing Sealers (template 5247). The are small round white 1" stickers. I open a sheet and make a cross hair in the center and measure carefully and put my sticker on.;)

Sometimes I just fold the towels down the middle and across where I want the center of the design and press with a bit of Magic Sizing and steam...towel usually shows folds and cross hair center for easy hooping...or I use chalk or pins placed like cross hairs...

Fold it, pin on the fold, and then just use the markings on the hoop to match up to middle.

another thing- If the towel has a woven border, be sure and measure from both edges of the hoop to the border as horizontal is more important than vertical in a lot of designs. Other designs are more forgiving to placement. Good luck!! Kay

Pinning does work, but if you want a white marker on dark fabrics, I use very thin, old, hardened hotel soap bar. Gets a nice thin line and washes out easily. I have a drawerful of soap bars set aside for this use! To harden soap "faster", place unwrapped soap in an atiic in summer for about a month. P.S. Unwrapped new soap bars hardened in the attic will last twice as long as the coddled (not dried out yet) soap in double paper wrapper. Hence, soap is half price!

you can use masking tape, but first stick it a couple of time or more on some fabric you don;t intended to use getting almost all the sticky off,

Clover makes a white pen which disappears when ironed.I found that it can disappear before your eyes on hot humid days.
