This depends a lot on the machine you have. The Baby Lock Ellisimo has a camera that will scan you fabric in the hoop and then you just drag the design where you want it..previously sewn designs will show up when you rescan the hoop and then drop the next design right in..OR..print templates, mark the center cross hairs on the fabric when hooping. I use Velum for my templates..you can see through it and it's heavier then paper (used a lot in scrapbooking)and get at JoAnns. Janome has a Clothsetter for their multiple hoopings. I'm sure other Cuties will have other suggestions...

sorry I am not explaining myself well. I want to create a type of scene on fabric not make a mega single design. With more than one design example: trees flowers grass that sort of thing. I just want to figure out where & how close to the last design do I place the hoop? I am trying not to leave gaps of blank space. This will be ain a pic frame if I can manage, I hope this is a better explaination

I think what dragonflyer said about the templates is probably a good idea. I have Janome software, and it will print a template of the design complete with crosshairs for lining it up with the centering marks on the hoop. Maybe print out all the designs you want to use, and lay them out on the fabric as you'd like them. Line up the first design, when that's sewn out take the second template and line that up where you want it, because the material will have pulled some from the first one, and so on thru the ones you want to use. I can see what I'm trying to say, but I don't know if I'm making myself clear. Did you check Embroidery Library for a tutorial? I know I saw one somewhere that was pretty thorough, but EmbLibrary is a guess in the dark. Hope somebody has better help, hugs, Marji

See, I had to go look once I said it, then I had to read about how to put my kitties on a pillowcase, and I found the tulle and organza tutorials, I could spend all day at Kenny's Korner at Embroidery Library. I found tutorials for things I didn't even ever think about doing! But to the point, here's the one about multiple placement using templates. It's for putting multiple designs on a garment, but the process would be the same no matter what you were putting it on, I think. Hugs, Marji

You have been given some excellent ideas. I do as dragpnflyer has written. I also followed and printed out the instructions from emblibrary , Marji has given the link for that. Most of the sites that offer large designs have tutorials of some kind. Here are a few of my favorites on the subject.
