Our local United Way is asking for volunteers to sew prayer squares for the local breast and ovarian cancer support groups. I have Cuties8144229 and am wondering if anyone knows of any others

I don't know exactly what a prayer square is....

They sew a small prayer out on felt, similar to a card to give to those in the support group who have few or no supporters to help them through the treatment process. Just a little prayer to help them make it through each treatment.

Can you explain more? What is a prayer square? Is this with just the local UW or is this a national deal? You have my interest.
By Cuties8144229, do you mean the "cancer cannot" saying?

Yes, it's the closest thing to a prayer I have in my stash of cancer designs.
As far as I know it is just my local United Way, but you could always Google "United Way Circle of Hope" in your area to see if they have the same program.

She is referring to design #8144229 in DBC. Below are the links. I would like to catalog this type of design into a group, so please add items here and I will be back to pick them up. Thanks Christine Live Laugh Download Stitch!

I'm not asking for volunteers, just wanting to know if you know of any encouraging prayers for those that have to suffer this debilitating treatment.

I don't know your machine and if you had small enough fonts to create your own. The other issue here is about copyright which confuses me still. I am not sure if you could use any of these quotes

Is your machine capable of stitching out letters, then you could "write" anything you wanted. My machine has a font stitch, so I don't even have to be in embroidery mode. I can just put in the letters and it does decorative stitching writing. Good luck with your squares. I know it will mean a lot to the recipients.

I just found another design that might work for you. It is words in the ribbon shape, and is a freebie.

There's a site that has lots of religious type designs, and if I remember right, maybe not prayers but quotes, like "The Lord is my Shepherd" things. I know somebody will know the site I'm talking about, because I can't for the life of me find it in my favorites. I seem to have way too many favorites. But I know I've seen the Cuties mention it before, somebody will tell you. Also, I don't see why you couldn't use your machine fonts to make different quotes like this from the Bible, part of a psalm, or some of the encouraging verses from the New Testament. I don't think the Lord will take you to court over the copyright on that one, at least. Other than Meg's "Cancer Cannot", I really don't remember seeing anything like this in Designs by Cuties. Best of luck with this project, it certainly sounds worthwhile. I hope somebody can post that site for you. Hugs, Marji

I was checking out the $1 designs at Stitch Delight today, Thursday 26 July 2012, and when I saw this cancer ribbon angel wings, I remembered your post. I know this isn't a prayer sqare, exactly, but I would think people would really like these if they were fighting cancer, especially if you put a pink ribbon on it, they could use it as a bookmark, or even put it around their wrist as a bracelet while they're having treatment. Anyway, this design is on sale for today only at Stitch Delight for only $1. Hope this helps you, hugs, Marji
