Another project for Uganda (and other third world countries) These little jumpers are for Fidh'n'chip babies". (Babies with AIDS who often have to be wrapped in newspaper because they don't have clothes.

At first I thought that you had repurposed a sweater sleeve. What a neat idea. It would be fun to see these modeled by a baby. The sleeves are under the top ribbing, right? Or are they without sleeves? Just curious. Great job. Good cause!!

Thank you for the link, Sue. I've been reading reports and it seems that enough little jumpers have been made and no more are wanted.
Have you heard anything like that?
Do you have any up to date news about that?
Could there ever be enough warm woollies for these babies?
Also.... do you think that a good quality acrylic yarn would be just as acceptable as pure woollen yarn?

Can be found on the same blog. Click on the jumper on the righ where it says how many have been made and scrolling down the new page you'll find the pattern for the jumper and the beenie.

Here in Australia we are still knitiing these litle jumpers & hats. We have not heard anything about not needing anymore, I don't think that will ever happen.
Our instruction for kniting these is that they must be in bright, vibrant colours with stripes working well. They have to be knitted in acrylic only - NO wool. The acrylic only may be for washing purposes. We were supplied an 8 ply pattern by Amnesty International Australia. Some ladies have used bright varigated yarn instead of stripes.

Have written the pattern down, Sue, the bright, variegated ones look the way to go as I haven't got any brightly coloured yarns for stripes like yours. Chester isn't far away, but September looms and I can't promise, but thanks for the info. Jan
