today my mil is 90 yrs old & to celebrate this (& yes she still lives in her own home) we are having a party for her in a couple of weeks My question is we have rented a hall & have booked the entertainment BUT should we have party favors for people to take home & if sew what should we have? & should we have centerpcs for the tables & if sew what kind of thing?

I really have no idea, I was thinking that I could make an angel for each person to take home? You know thanks for coming your an angel? DH says that wouldn't work for the guys?

Just off the top of my head, perhaps you could make centerpieces out of something like a bunch of potted plants, or flowers; then people could take apart the centerpiece and each take a pot home? That way you could have both, a centerpiece and a favor for anyone who wanted it, and nothing to have to take home. Just a thought, I'm sure others will have much better ideas. Hugs, Marji

Little baskets with mints always works. It is a lot of work, so I guess it depends how much time you have to devote to whatever you do. I am sure everything will be lovely. Happy Birthday to MIL!

I love the idea of the candy/nut baskets but hubby just stated that "guys" are really not into party favors. So, maybe some fsl coasters for the table with mil's name and age? Guys would probably handle those if not too girly. Hugs...Carol

I think people would love a little photo of her, just maybe printed with a cute frame - the kind that print shops can include on the picture. If you have a photo and some ideas of what she loves, I can make a little printable frame for you... Then you can have them printed there ......

this is what the invitation looks like, I was sew impressed by it, I think it looks like it comes right from the Hallmark store. I think that this is a card that everyone will keep. what do you think?

A few years ago, I attended an event, where those who put together the event made little scrolls with a picture of the guest of honor and a few stats about her. Each one was tied with a ribbon and passed out when the guests entered (think diploma type scroll, but it wasn't). It was very tastefully done, and could all be done on the computer should you choose.

If you have a family as large as mine, then making something that would require a lot of work per item would be very stressful. Just a thought....
well my dh's family isn't nearly as big as mine but still there are 75 coming sew yes that would be alot? This idea bears some thought as well thanks

I'm impressed, love the card! It has been done beautifully and the guys will love it too. In my experience, guys don't care about favors/coasters/baskets and similar items but appreciate a beautiful card such as the one you have posted. Well done! As for centerpieces, I would place a little floral bouquet.

When My brother & Sister in law had a party for their 50th wedding they had placemats with their wedding photo. Just a photocopy and it was laminated. Perhaps you could use some of her life photos to make some. Congratulations to your MIL. My sister was 90 3 weeks ago, but she is in a nursing home with dementia and confined to a wheel chair. We had a small family gathering in one of the small lounges at the home for her. It was lovely. Hugs Shirley

Was there something she had or made or did that really was "her?" If she made candy, you could use her recipe and have those for people, or if she loved dogs, you could do some little FSL dog bookmarks. Are you going to put those photos into a slide show, or video? Would there be 90 people to present her one by one into a gigantic bouquet of life? I'll love hearing what you do!

Perhaps her recipe printed with a picture of her and the cheesecake she made for some event. This could be printed on a circle and the edges tinted brown. These could then be stacked on a pretty platter, plate or saucer for the centerpiece. With the platter, plate or saucer raised from the table(cup under the saucer), then place flowers around the base. If there are not enough places at each table to make a good stack of the recipes, put a piece of cardboard(with strip of paper tinted the same as the recipe edges) under the bottom of the recipes. If she has some dishes that they guests would recognize, they would make wonderful centerpieces.
You can purchase clear plates and stemmed glasses at a party store. Turn the glasses with the drinking edge on the table, set the plates on top of the glasses. Also you can add the battery operated tea lights inside the glass for a pretty effect. Long, but maybe some help.

Girls and guys like candy, or any treat, bag of peanuts makes a fellow glad to have come! Think simple, portable for travelers, consumeable is good. Frufru isn't well received by guys, but half the room won't be guys! I personally don't think one coaster is great, I got one at a Red Hat event, and what good is one??? I wanted to whole set!! A friend sprinkled the little round polished stones on the table at their wedding. I took a few home and used sautering lead and the stones glued to a set of glasses and gifted them back to her for Christmas.

Really, that card is so great you should just tell them to keep it as a favor, a remembrance of MIL, if it's got other pics of her like you said. It's really really well done, your printer is a gem. Have them bring the invitation to the party, so MIL can sign it, and they can get autographs from other people who are at the party as well, some of the older folks especially. That invitation then becomes something to put in a scrapbook for the younger generations, to remember the older folks by. Instead of just a 'favor' they'd have a shared memory to pass down. You might think about getting one of the photo mats you can sign, and have everyone at the party sign it, frame the invitation with all the signatures, and give it to MIL, so SHE can remember her wonderful party. You are so lucky to still have her, enjoy enjoy! Hugs, Marji

my mom had two wonderful parties. One at either 95 or 97 and of cource the big 100. my sister planned it all with much help delegated even down to the valet parking. We requested no gifts and every one brought cards and flowers. It was an open house affair and the entertainment changed each hour. I did post some photos, but was embarrassed to hog too much space. I am sure any thing you do will be a memory forever. perhaps an extra piece of cake to take home would be a treasure. Take lots of pictures and share with us. Kay
