Yes, try cutting through layers of aluminum foil right out of your kitchen cabinet! Be careful, it works!

I bought a hand held Sissors sharpner from my local sewing shop it is a Swiss precision Sharpner Combo Star brand. It works great. It comes with good instructions on how to sharpen scissors the right way.Hope this helps. Hugs Joyce

I find cutting thru a piece of aluminum folded over several times a few times does wonders. When dull repeat again. I do it all the time to my stash because I dont take them in for sharpening.

I have tried the foil on a small pair of curved. I think I may have to do it regularly. They should make a sharpening cloth. Cu the cloth sharpen your scissors. Make things easy on us! Anybody got an in in the textile/tools industry? Live Laugh Download Stitch!

I've heard about the allum. foil before but never from a bunch of ladies that are sewers!

Will be trying it today on some older pairs before trying it on my expensive ones!

I use the alum. foil trick all the time. Just keep snipping thru several folds of foil until the scissors are sharp as new.

I too have tried the foil. I had saved a piece that I had wrapped over a chicken in the oven. I cleaned
it. Laid the foil on a flat surface and used Goo Gone on my hoops to clean them. I didn't want that to get in my drain. So I threw that away. I used
another used clean piece of foil and made multiple
cuts with scissors and then with some of that I used
it to punch holes with old needles. It sharpen the
scissors and gave additional life to the needles.
So I guess you could say I recycled.olds/Maureen

Wow! Thanks for all the ideas. I know have about 30 pairs of scissors around the house and they are all SHARP! Isn't that a bit many pairs? How many scissors do you have in your house? I think I'm a scissor hoarder :-) Do you call them "scissors" or "a scissor?" My husband is from Maryland, and he has some strange ways of saying things!

Have not tried this one but have read several places that you can cut through fine sandpaper and it will sharpen them. Mighat try on an old pair of scissors first.

Fiskars makes several types/sizes of scissor sharpeners and they work pretty good. I use a knife sharpener that looks like a steel linf rod with a handle like a knife and when I get through using it I get rid of the metal scrappings left on the scissors with a piece of aluminum foil. Just cut through the foil several and it gets rid of all of what I call burrs. The fiskars sharpeners are fairly cheap and last forever. They do a decent job.I have several of them because I have scissors in every room and also had some at the craft store when I was still in business. The foil gets the uneven places and burrs off of the scissors no matter what you use to sharpen them.

I have used the aluminium foil, folded a few times, and it works. It isn't my idea, I have read it somewhere else.

Just wanted to add - you can "run" your dull rotary cutters through a wad of alum. foil and get some extra life out of the blade, too. Hugs and sharp scissors. LOL

the cost for sharpenning sometimes is as expensive as buying a new pair of little scissors, so that's what I do....***

I have a sharpener - about the size of a pen flattened. I think it's called "speedy sharp". It works great. It's good for all kinds of things that need to be sharpened (gardening tools). I got them at Canadian Tire for $12 a couple years ago. I had tried the foil as suggested and for some reason had no luck with it - seemed the blades were even worse after.

I just tried the foil on a very bad pair of scissors that I was using for the kids Popsicles. They are a little out of kilter and were terrible dual. They are now still out of kilter, but I am able to cut much much better. Thank-you for the tip. And thank-you hightechgrammy for asking the question.
