Yes, Urban Threads has a great blog as well, and sometimes contests. Some of the clothing designs on the blog are outstanding, think you'd love them.

There is one right there in California. It's called the L.A. County Fair. The sewing competition is halfway down the page and the arty section is a bit lower down. Unfortunately, you have missed the date that things are meant to be in by. Good luck for next time. Have a look on Google and type in Art or Sewing competitions and I'm sure you will find something. During the autumn, there are lots of bazaars and other assorted activities in preparation for Christmas/holiday time. A lot of these are associated with contests and such. Check with your public library or chamber of commerce for activities.
