Embird help needed...I upgraded to the new Embird 2012 basic program...when I go to open a zip file the icons inside have changed. They use to show the format of each file..now I get something that looks like a blue TV and even if I hover over the file no names show...is there a setting that I need to change? It's hard to know which files are my format..when I unzip the files, I can then hover over each and get a description...Hoping a Cutie will have the answer for me...thanks!

Have you upgraded to the latest build 4 (released the day before yesterday)? I know there were several glitches in the first two 2012 versions.

I just upgraded my Embird Basic yesterday afternoon...and it is Version 4...Does anyone else get these "Blue TV" like icons in their zip files? Up until I upgraded my Embird I got icons that showed in the icon what embroidery type file it was and they were color coded..Hus was yellow, Pes was purple, etc...Anyone help me? It's frustrating not to be able to identify the format and have to look for the Pes format I use...I know some Cutie out there will have the answer...TIA!

I can't help you because I don't have Embird, but I know years ago the folks at Artistic Thread Works, Holly & Larry Pike, used to use and sell the product, and it seems they had information on their website about how to use it. I'm not SURE about this, because it's been a couple of years since I was there. I do know we have Cuties that use Embird, so I hope they see this. I wish I knew more about it. Good luck, hugs, Marji

hi there.. may I ask if you are viewing the zip file via windows.. as i get the same.. but if viewing the zip folder in embird then i see the designs.. go to iconizer settings and select all the formats you wish iconzier to reconize.. its a pain because you have to do this everytime to upgrade.. big hugs from London - Maria xx

I set the iconiser settings, but in Manager I only get the names, complete with format, but no icons, and not just the zip-files, every file. In Explorer the icons are shown, be since the upgrade to 2012 not in Embird Manager.
by mops 09 Aug 2012
oops, shoul read ...BUT since the upgrade
by dragonflyer 09 Aug 2012
Don't know if this will help you to see pictures in Manager, but there are two little boxes stacked one on top of each other..on the right hand panel area...if you hover over...one is "preview" and one is "preview files". If these are unchecked, I only get a description name..if both are checked I see the picture of the file...

I believe I am viewing in windows...I d/l zip, click to open and that's when I see the "Blue TV" icons, then I extract and pics of files are there. In Embird, I have gone into Iconizer settings and selected all for first option, and selected all but quilting files for second option and then OK...I see pictures in Manager, no problem...Problem is not with Iconizer..Problem is in the zip file...can't tell what the format is anymore until I actually unzip the file...then I have to go over each file individually to find my Pes files...it's a real pain, especially if it's an alphabet...finding 26 Pes files among many others. Before I got the unzip icons showing the formats and they were color coded and I could delete the unwanted formats BEFORE I unzipped the file...Anyone know how to contact Embird for help? I have tried in the past, but never have gotten a reply...Oh me Oh my!

Perhaps someone can tell me how to contact Embird or send a message on our behalf with this issue...Maybe???
by mooie24 09 Aug 2012
in windows.. open the zip file then right click for display.. click on details thats how I see the different formats :-)
by dragonflyer 09 Aug 2012
Oh, I'll give that a try...too!

AAAAH! That is the way a zipped file is supposed to work, normally.
I have never used Embird to unzip files, so I don't know how they work in Embird.
It is easy enough to sort designs into TYPES if you view in Explorer just change the VIEW to "details" then click on the Type button at the top of the page. This is for XP.

Oh I could kiss you! Even though I still get Blue TV's the workaround is clicking "Details"...but then clicking "Type" to sort them by format..who knew? I was cherry picking through the whole file to delete ones I didn't want...Genius!

Did you uninstall your previous version and then install the update?
You can check under the help section on the Embird website, also look for information about installing the new update.
Website - embird.net

You can contact Embird at the following email address for help with software.
support@embird.net

Hope this helps you!

Thanks EastWitch...I did finally get an e-mail off with no return rejected...But, looking at their site, they ask for a "transaction number"...I don't know what they are talking about. I have read and reread their registration e-mail and don't find anything that refers to a "transaction number"..I have sent them inquiries in the past and have never gotten a response...still trying!

The transaction number could be for your purchase of the update.
Did you get a receipt when you ordered the update and paid for it/
Try that.

There are user forums you can join.
They are on the main page on the lower right side.
I wonder if that would work for you.

Hi there my suggestion was not anything to do with embird but with windows.. honestly..
in windows open the zip file or double click on it.. then on a blank space right click.. click on view.. then you can select the view option you require.. I select details as this then shows the formats of the contained files.. example :- pes, hus, jpeg ect.. Big hugs from London maria xx

Thanks, I did find this and it is a workaround..don't know what Embird 2012 did to change my zip configuration from what I was seeing before..whatever happened it occurred when I installed the new Embird 2012..it happened immediately.

When you do a new Embird upgrade you have to uninstall the previous version, sometimes when you do this your icons get highjacked by another program, that's the easiest way to describe it.
You need to go into Embird Iconizer settings and check all the icons you want Embird to manage.
Please let me know if this doesn't fix your problem.
I suggest you join FlyingNeedleStudio web group for the best Embird help you can get.

So, thanks to several of our genious Cuties...there is a workaround for my problem...still seeing Blue TV's in my zip files...but who knew you could click on "Details" in the View dropdown...THEN (thank you Meganne) click on "Type" in the headder of the zip file and, voila, all of the files are sorted by format...wow, I was just cherry picking the whole zip file to delete the ones I did not want...now, they are all grouped together...Genious..Thanks to all Cuties who offered help...Still looking for the fix to return my icons to show format like they use to and not have these "blue TV's", but I'll take the workaround in the meantime. If anyone out there figures out how go do this...please keep us posted...Thank you again...
