Ok, I need to ask for your prayers for my hand, if you don't mind praying for someone with no brains. My cat Polly bit me, because she was fighting with Lucy, & was cornered in the sewing room, and I tried to pull her out. Wrong move. She nailed my right hand, right on the joint where I had the basal bone removed due to arthritis & it constantly aches anyway. I think I'd rather be shot. So I was at the doctor's today, and had to get a tetanus shot, which will make my arm sore for a week. And I have to take amoxicillin for 10 days, because that's the best for cat bites, and it makes me sick as a dog. I've no choice, I've already got a small fever. The hand is swollen, my RIGHT hand, of course, and I can't grasp anything, open cans, run the sweeper, or sew. It's hard to type, too, but not as hard as bringing those fingers together. It happened about 1AM, so I iced it & tried to sleep, that didn't go well, either. I can't believe I did something that stupid, I've had cats all my life, I KNOW better. Well, maybe not at 1AM. Please pray that it's not as miserable as I think it's going to be from experience. I feel bad enough being so dumb, being sick to my stomach and forced to be left handed & in even more pain than usual is just not going down well here. Sigh. You might see if God has any extra brains lying about to send to me, heaven knows I need 'em. Thanks, hugs, Marji

PS This is Polly, all 17 lbs of her, and look at the size of those feet! She is very contrite, and she'll do it again in a heartbeat.

You are not the first Cute to have this experience. I know of one other that had to go to emergency due to a cat scratch, so please do not feel like you are the only one. Part of having furbabies is to deal with their temper tantrums. Take your medicine and think good thoughts. You will be stitching soon! LLDS!

Thanks! I wasn't going to the ER and sit all night, plus it's 30 miles away. Figured if I wasn't dead by morning, I'd call the Doc. 17 lb. Polly's pigheaded & so am I, guess I should have let 5 lb. Lucy at her, hee hee hee.

Eat yogurt and drink acidophilus milk.
Cat scratches can be very serious, worse than dog bites.
Find someone reputable in your area that does K Laser treatments. If you lived nearby I would take you to see my BIL. The K Laser treatments helped heal my injuries so much faster. They may even help with the arthritis pain. My swelling was gone the next day.
Praying for you...but you are just a kind person hoping to help kitties get along...kindness not brainless.

Yeah, my late husband almost lost a hand when Sara bit him, that's why I bothered at all. Been bitten many times over the years, never a problem, this was right on the tendon & she punctured a vein. Sometimes kindness=brainless, they were just yelling at each other.
by marjialexa 08 Aug 2012
at each other. She'll bite me, she's afraid of little 5 lb Lucy, go figure.
by marjialexa 08 Aug 2012
What's a K laser? My chiropractor has some kind of light therapy I get, it can be very helpful at times. Chiropractor is always my first choice, MDs not so much. I wonder if it would help with this? Maybe I'll ask on Thursday. Thanks for the tip.
by rescuer 08 Aug 2012
Chiropractors are the ones who use K Laser.
I hope you feel better soon!

Oh Marji please stay on top of this. If it gets redder, increased warmth, or starts being pussy go back to the Dr. Or if after the antibiotic is done and you are still having problems go back to Dr. Get well soon.

Marji, please take care of yourself first! You probably did the right thing with washing it right away and icing the area. You probably acted with your heart, you are not brainless. I too hate it when my furbabies get into it. Your picture of the culprit is wonderful. She/he is adorable.
Prayers are with you...
Hugs, Bonnie

Thanks, Lillian, good to hear from you! If I had been thinking at all, I wouldn't have interfered, because they wouldn't have hurt each other. Polly is 17lbs, Lucy is 5 lbs, and the moose cat is scared of the tiny one! She just yowls so loudly, like she's being killed! It was a dumb move on my part.
by marjialexa 09 Aug 2012
somebody's pulling her ears off or whatever. It was a dumb move on my part, and I'm paying for it. Thanks for the prayers, appreciate it, glad you're ok, too.

Thanks for your prayers & sympathy, I appreciate it. I hope I'm feeling better by the weekend, anyway. Polly is the youngest of all the fur kids, and the biggest. She wants to be an only child, or at least tell everybody else what to do. Nobody's buying it. She's sort of a bully, but she's also very insecure, and imagines being picked on. Lucy is tiny, but hard headed: those two have been at it since Polly was a tiny kitten. Polly could trounce Lucy just on size alone, but I don't think she understands how strong she is. Lucy knows she's little, so she attacks Polly from ambushes, like behind the door, under the chair. Then Polly yells like she's being beaten within an inch of her life. Somebody around here needs a Valium; probably me, hee hee hee. Here's a picture of Lucy, the little terror.

Do anything wrong? Lucy? Hee hee hee, her name isn't Lucy-furr for nothing! Inky is 13, SaraJane is 13, Ditto is 8, Lucy is 7, Polly and Mikey are both 3. Jamie, the dog is 8. I have a house full.
by capoodle 09 Aug 2012
Poor Jamie. Can the dog hold up against all the cats?
by marjialexa 09 Aug 2012
Jamie is a Shetland Sheep Dog, or Sheltie, a herding dog, and they are his little 'herd'. He's very protective of them, & they all cuddle with him & love him.
by capoodle 10 Aug 2012
Sounds sweet. Now if you could just teach him to go in and break up the kitty altercations. lol

She is just beautiful. I'm so sorry you got injured trying to stop a fight. Even tame kitties can be wild. I did nearly the same thing, trying to save my kitty, Ollie, from strangling himself on the window blind cord. His claws went in - like a puncture, and I suffered for two weeks, with lots of antibiotics, and keeping my arm warm with wet compresses. I called it Cat Scratch Fever - and I think I really did have it. Be patient, it does take time. Kitties are worth it - right?
Hugs, Jan

They are both ever so lovely and trusing that Mommy will be there for them. Sorry that you got bitten and I hope that your pain and swelling will be better by the weekend. I used o spray mine with a waterspray bottle when they fight and that worked very well.

For those of you wondering how Jamie holds up with all these cats, this is a large picture of the one which I use for my avatar. Jamie & Lucy were sitting on the cough together, this was on Christmas Day, 2005, when Lucy was still a kitten. The cats really all love him, and he's very protective of them. Jamie & Lucy, Jamie & Ditto (who didn't appreciate the kiss)

Your Sheltie looks like one of mine who passed many years ago. They are wonderful dogs! I'm glad most of your furry family members get along well. ;)

Beautiful pictures of the fur babies together. Picture perfect.
by marjialexa 10 Aug 2012
I love the one of Jamie & Lucy, even if it's technically not good. I just grabbed the camera and fired or I would have missed it totally, & camera wasn't set right. Could have been a calendar pic if it was higher resolution.

Spray bottle of water and a few drops of white venegar. just let them have it when fighting, stops my little ratbags. Sometimes they only have to hear me shake the bottle and they stop, for at least a few minutes. LOL
