Well, Cuties, found out why I can't embroider. It is not my sewing machine, it is the embroidery module. One of the circuit boards is fried, now they have to determine which one...there is an upper board and lower one. The upper one should be in the repair shop in the next day or two, the lower one is on back order at Bernina...I just pray it isn't the lower one...God only knows how long Bernina will have it on back order! Has anyone else ever had their embroidery module go out on them? This is the first one my repair guy has seen. Even Bernina Tech Support is having him replace one circuit board at a time to find out which one is bad...how that for diagnostics? GGGGRRR!!! Thank heavens the boards are under warranty for 5 years and my machine is just under 3 years old....BTW it is the Bernina Series 8-830....

What a disappointment - I had a friend who's board went out in her Viking - and she certainly was not pleased...I would hate to think what they would cost if you did not have the warranty still..Maybe it will be a quick repair for you. My DH was a network engineer, and did repairs a long time ago...he said all the younger recruits were just "board swappers" instead of dianotic repairs the way he did it. LOL

Yeah, that's why things cost so much more now too, they just keep swapping parts until something is fixed instead of fixing it with one thing right the first time.......I was so disappointed to hear Bernina told him to do this, instead of tell him how to test it...

My husband used to do diagnostics on electronics, too. Parts are cheaper than time these days!

I have a Bernina 640. My machine was having "Fatal Errors" a while back. My local repair got went through the one board at a time routine until he got it "fixed." About 6 months later, the "fatal errors" started up again. He decided not even to try fixing it himself and sent it off to Bernina. It was gone a month and they pretty much rebuilt everything. So it is now a "fully reconditioned" machine. That doesn't extend the warrenty, but I'm glad they got it fixed! Expect to pay for the labor and shipping on your machine. Warranties cover parts. On mine anyway! Good luck! I hope it's the upper board!

I hear you!! Yes, I know the labor isn't covered, which sometimes is the most expensive part, but my guy told me it's an easy labor & not to worry...whew!!

I think I paid $200. But my dealer felt so bad about having to do that, he refunded me my last cleaning charge, in store credit, of course! And they have wonderful stuff!
