I would like to put monograms on towels as a wedding present. My question is where do I place them? From the bottom of the towel can vary I know depending if the towel has a border. If I place the monogram in the middle of the 'edge', when folded (over a towel rail) the design will not be seen. I have been looking for a tutorial but cannot find one. Please help. TIA Sarah.

Interesting question. I place my designs in the middle of the left hand side so that when the towel is folded in half & hung, my design is then in the middle. (hope that makes sense). I checked out all my friends bathrooms & found most people hang 2 towels both folded in half. Well, that's my story & I'm sticking to it. xx

That's the sort of answer I am looking for. I have googled and found that all I looked at put the design in the center, which is useless when towels are folded in half lengthwise.

Well, I don't like actually using embroidered towels as the embroidered section can be quite scratchy on skin, so I always put designs (for us) in the right hand corner at the bottom of the towel, less chance of being scratched. That doesn't make it right, it's just what I choose to do for Ray, MIL and me.
When I have done them for other people I place the design depending on the size of it, if I can fit it along the edge (underneath any border) then I will centre on one half like Lyns does.
Have you googled your question Sarah?
I may now have to, just to see what others do. LOL!!!
Sorry, I know I'm not much help. LOL!!!

When in doubt about anything concerning embroidery this seems to be the place to look.

Ebroidery library has wonderful tutorials for placement on towels. Go to their projects page and then Techniques guides.
Sorry I have not put my link here because it might carry my "signed in" page.

I fold my towels in 3rds longways to place over the towel rack. Looking a commercial designs, they are usually centered on the lower portion in that center 3rd. I have never placed a design below the border, usually enjoy a larger design and want it to show. I fold the towel, lay it out and put my hand down in the area I want the design. Then measure up from the bottom or the border if there is one, and center.

Sarah, it depends on the way it is going to hang. I do most of my designs on the right hand bottom corner. If there is a border, I do it just above it.

Thank you Yvonne - there seem to be so many ways I am just a bit confused.

Sarah, all of the towels with embroidery already on them in the stores have it centered and the bottom of the design ABOVE the border by 2-3 inches (this is a bath towel). The towel is then folded in thirds the long way and hung on a rack. If you repeat the process on the hand towel, it will hang on top of the bath towel in the same way and both designs will show.

Just go to any Big name Department store and look at their high end towels. You'll see the monograms .

Stella - there are no shops here in S. Africa (that I know of) that have monogramed towels - unfortunately.

Good question! I was just wondering that yesterday. I've seen it a few ways and had been wondering what others do.
