Welcome Shelly, I own a Husqvarana Designer 1 and have seen the Ruby in the shops etc. I know it has a larger hoop than the D1, don't know of any problems associated with it, and I've owned Husqvarnas for over 30 years! Welcome to Cute!!! I have a Viking, but not a Ruby. My big thing about all Vikings is that you have to send them Faaaaarrrr from home to get worked on if there is a problem. I have had to send my Rose out several times in its life, and don't get it back for 6-8 weeks. Otherwise, I love Viking machines. Hugs, Judy in Amarillo, TX...

I have Ruby and it is a problem with it, when I've stitched ca. 10000 stitches on it then start to hear banging sound in it and then it just becomes more and more, I have told my dealers that I am not happy with this, I just want to get a new machine, it have been replaced 1x the pad packs in it, they have to check this out in Sweden, hope this resolves soon, I have become very tired of these banging sounds in it, I know of others who have had a new Ruby because of this banging sounds.

I purchased my Ruby almost 2 years ago and up until lately, it was working fine. Earlier this summer when I tried using it in the sewing mode, it would only sew in reverse (weird eh) and as much as I tried it would not feed. I recently took it in for repairs and also mentioned that it had started a banging noise (as has mentioned Sigrun) especially when I do a design with many stitches. The repair man called me Monday and said the problem is that some thread got caught in the hand wheel which in turn forced the feed link and caused damage. This is explained was the reason the banging noise would occur. Lucky for me he will put it through under the warrenty and everything will be O.K. Just have to wait another 2 weeks to get it back UGH.
Overall it is a good machine but expensive as all viking machines are.

i have a Designer 1 and it is about 6 years old and had it in the repair shop just for regular maintenance. No real problem. I wouldn't trade it. I am blessed to have a dealer here about a mile from where I work so dropping it of is no problem. I love my machine and wouldn't trade it. I looked at a Ruby once but am glad now I didn't get after reading some reviews on it. The Designer 1 sure is a workhorse as people say. Too bad they quit making them. Their loss for they would have sold more. I am content with the mega hoop. Roberta

I don't won a Viking, but I own a Pfaff which is made in Germany. I have been lucky so far that I have not had a lot of problems with it.

I have had a Designer1 since 1998 and gave that to my daughter when I bought a Ruby.

D1 was serviced every year and only repair has been a replacement screen 2 years ago. Used the D1 yesterday as my daughter asked me to embroider something for my GD - it still works perfectly.

The Ruby (bought Nov 2010) has given me no problems at all, it sews and embroiders beautifully. It's noisier than the D1 in embroidery mode, especially when doing FSL - thicker material, less noise - but my 4 needle makes more noise.

Like several cuties before me WELCOME about your Ruby I have heard this tale of woe several times. According to my dealer (I have the designer 1) the Ruby had a few problems that have since been resolved. I think I would demand a new machine and then hopefully your troubles will be over. Now all you have to do is learn to handle your 'cutie addiction!'. Good luck and let us know what the final outcome is.
